Tales of Destiny Request: Gourmet C
Today is another request day for @midasesquivel! Tales of Destiny’s Gourmet C. The most fun about these dishes is that while I have all the ingredients dictated by the minigame, what I make with them is more or less up to me!
While the recipe calls for a crab/shrimp broth, even the broth mix needed for 2 cups worth of that can be very expensive. If you want, you can substitute with chicken or vegetable broth.
If you are familiar with a traditional white sauce or white wine sauce, you will recognize the flavor of the soup. In making this soup, I personally noticed a definite relation to the flavor created by the both and a white wine sauce traditionally served over shrimp. For those not in the know, that means this dish is incredibly rich. I highly recommend having the broth+shrimp and crab over/with rice or bread instead of eating it by itself because while it will be amazingly delicious you will probably give yourself a stomachache.
2 cups Chicken or Shrimp broth
~1/4 lb. Crab Meat, shredded
1/4 tsp. each of Paprika and Cayenne
1/2 cup Rice, cooked, or Bread
Prep Time: 5 - 10 min. | Total Cook Time: 20 - 30 min.
Step 1.) Bring a saucepan full of water to a boil.
Step 2.) Slowly add in two eggs and lower the heat to a simmer.
Step 3.) Allow eggs to cook for 6 minutes, then run under cold water and place in fridge to chill.
Step 1.) Prep the onion and garlic by dicing and mincing them, respectively. Place both in a saucepan with the butter and cook until the onions turn translucent.
Step 2.) Stir in the flour and then slowly whisk the broth in small amounts at a time. Add in all of the spices and bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer.
Step 3.) While the broth is cooking, just cook the shrimp and crab in a lightly greased frying pan and set aside (no more than 5 minutes total.)
Step 4.) When the soup is ready to serve, add the shrimp and crab (plus any juices gained while cooking them) into the broth. Pour in the cream 1 tbsp. at a time until it reaches a creaminess of your choice. Serve over rice or bread with the peeled eggs cut in half and enjoy!
Like I said in the description, this is a very rich and delicious dish, I just wish I had had the foresight to making some rice or bread to go with it myself, because I ate so much of it I gave myself a terrible stomachache! I guess that speaks to its deliciousness though!
