Whoops!
I use a Microtrack 2 to record shows. It's got lots of awesome features that make it really easy to get a really great recording at almost any venue.
It also has a feature known as Phantom Power. Phantom Power is a method of powering certain microphones that need a power source to record correctly. Adding this feature to the Microtrack 2 meant that people could now record over the air with condenser mics.
It also meant that when I tried to record 2 hours of Reggae Junkie Jew and Artillery Funk on June 25, I ended up with a 20 minute recording.
Because I'm plugging directly into the soundboard, I have no need for Phantom Power. Somehow, I flipped the Phantom Power switch on the Microtrack when I was setting everything up. This drained the battery about 8x faster than usual, and killed my recording of what turned out to be an awesome show.
My apologies to anyone who missed the show and was hoping to hear a recording of anything past the 20th minute. I'd also like to apologize to Artillery Funk, to whom I promised a recording of their show.
My project for the evening: super gluing the Phantom Power switch in the 'off' position.
