Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is reportedly preparing to “end sales” of the Lumia smartphone range this year. According to a report in Winbeta.org, the company has stopped production of these devices and is planning to end the range in December. The publication cited a source familiar with the company’s plans.

Jack Wilkinson writes in Winbeta that it seems a little odd that Microsoft is going to end sales. He believes that the company may be ending production of its Lumia devices at the end of this year.

Over the last few months, the company has dropped the prices of its Lumia devices. It seems that the company wanted to sell all produced devices till December 2016.

Microsoft launched only four Windows 10 Lumia devices. In June, the company introduced a “Buy One, Get One Free” offer in the U.S. and other markets.

Will Microsoft Announce New Phone Next Month?

Microsoft is rumored to be working on the Surface Phone.

According to reports, the company will hold an event in October, where it will announce a new Surface All-In-One device as well as other devices.

Some reports suggest that the Surface phone isn’t coming soon. The smartphone is expected to arrive fall 2017.

Rumors also suggest that the Surface Phone will be coming in three models. The entry-level model will get 32GB storage and 3GB RAM, the mid-range device get 128GB storage and 6GB RAM, and the third high-end model come with 500GB storage and 8GB of RAM.

The device is expected to get a 5.5-inch AMOLED display. According to some reports, the phone will feature Snapdragon 830, Snapdragon 821, and Atom 64-bit CPU.

During the second quarter, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) sold about 2.3 million Windows Phones, according to the research firm Gartner. The company sold 8.6 million devices in the same quarter last year.
