"#pillion was our most recent watch over on @bafta view. Now it took me a beat to realise what I was really watching, and what I was watching was brilliant! This feature debut by @hlighton is a.. erm.. dom-com? Anyway, it balances drama and comedy, perfectly and questions whether what we want is what we need, and the fine lines of love and desire. Once you realise this film is a perfectly woven character-driven piece you remember to breathe and just sit back. It’s also packed with amazing talent. Harry Melling excellently takes the lead while his character certainly doesn’t, Douglas Hodge perfectly portrays the Dad most of us street rats wish we’d had. He made me cry for several reasons, but mainly his soulful performance. We’re also treated to beautifully intimate cinematography by @nickmorris_ who sets a lovely consistent tone throughout capturing lovely beats and unspoken moments. The ensemble cast, brought together by kahleencrawfordcasting, delivers a seamless performance which really build out the world of this film at exactly the right times. Pillion has certainly birthed a new genre, let’s just hope it’s crafted in such wonderful hands as these."
