Lottie: this is a wildcard since it's not a princess movie but I think magic of the rainbow. She would definitely relate to Elina plus she would LOOVE that magic tree school omg. She also DEFINITELY would have had a crush on sunburst

Ellie: three musketeers. You KNOW she had a crush on them growing up for one thing but also she would have gotten her love of swordfighting from here. Also she would love that the prince is basically incompetent and doesn't even really get with barbie in the end 💅

Jamie: princess charm school ofc bro is literally Blair Willows

Anastacia: fairy secret is EXACTLY her aesthetic, it's so fabulous just like her and honestly what is anastacia if not reformed raquelle, which only this film is brave enough to give us

Binah: Mariposa. I know she wanted to read those little butterfly books so bad, also I feel like binah has that main character in an alternate timeline energy

Raphael: the barbie diaries LMAOO its so camp it would be right up his alley

Saskia: Christmas carol. I think she would appreciate the subversion of it (also Eden starling would remind her of anastacia whaaaaaaat who said that)

Lola: the nutcracker :3 she is so sugar plum princess, quite vibes based but it fits her so well

Micky: the diamond castle, this guy for sure wants to live in the woods with his homoerotic buddy making baskets of sweets

Percy: 12 dancing princesses, this is mostly vibes based but I really do think he would love the idea of having so many siblings after growing up pretty isolated, also I think the aesthetic of this movie is really soothing and tranquil much like him

Ollie: swan lake for the theme of an ordinary person being able to make a difference :') also I think the sense of humor of this movie fits him so well lmao is it weird if I say he kinda reminds me of the unicorn too

Sayuri: mermaidia, she reminds me so much of nori tbh and you know sayuri loves a good quest

Undercover Princess - Chapter 3

We made it to rosewood!!!!! The whole atmosphere of this chapter is so well construed; from the relief that yes! she made it! to the most overwhelming dread and anxiety of shes here, now what.

But straight into introductions: Ellie!

Lottie seeing Ellie across the carpark will never not be iconic.

Binah! and Rosewood Hall

Binah my beloved. i love how even in her introduction, as shes carrying all these books her entire character is to expect the unexpected. Shes stronger than she looks, and she seems to already always be one step ahead.

The audiobook of Connie voicing Binah for "Greetings" haunts my dreams. its the most uncanny bit of the audiobook and even though i'm reading the paper back right now it echoes in my mind...

The way Binah shes a lost newbie and immediately starts info dumping... i think i was Binah at uni.

The founders of each house looming above her is something i can picture so clearly, and every time I wish I could draw so i could draw Lotties reaction to them each year. Them looming and scary in her first year, compared to in book four when she comes back and is more confident, to the epilogue of the series where she truly belongs there.

I really enjoy that Lottie uses the parts of her mantra separately as well as together. the little 'Be Brave' just to deep breathe and steel her nerves is something I think everyone can relate to.

Lottie's imposter syndrome setting in already is a huge part of her character. She never really feels like she belongs there, until she has her role as portman, and she becomes more confident and more herself, even though she's pretending to be anything but. Thats why when Ellie leaves, she needs to rebuild herself again.

The business card never fails to make me laugh and now I want to design cards for all of them

I love that here again we see the supposed 'hidden magic' and I love that the roses and flowers seem to be magic, like in the myth of Inessa's gold in MAradova, and how royal blood, and those who rightfully belong somewhere will have an impact not just on the people or building, but actually are connected to the nature. Prof devine brings this up later in book 4 or 5 I think too!

And here begins my hatred of the miscommunication trope. Stupid. hate hate hate it. like yes it turns out okay eventually but ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Okay. Summary. I want to give lottie a hug, I'll never forgive Connie for country vs county. I was so in love with ani when i was 14 and i read this oh my god.

but also. It really genuinely portrays that imposter syndrome feeling of 'I don't belong here' and the idea that under no circumstance can you disappoint the school or people that accepted you. I went to one of the best universities in the country, and I felt that feeling every single day in class and walking around town.
