Happy Wincest Wednesday!
Okay. Asking thoughts about Castiel went awesome. I got a lot of cool analysis about his role in the plot and cool points and just some of the best answers I've gotten in ages from so many people. So I'm going to try and see if I can repeat that, or at least come close.
What are your thoughts on Adam? His role in the plot, how he was handled, him as a character himself? And of course headcanons and whatnot.

I’m going to be honest. I think about Adam about as much as the Winchesters do. So like, not at all. I think most people forget that we never see real, human, living Adam. In Jump the Shark, all the brotherly bonding scenes is a ghoul acting like he thinks Adam would act. I do not really take any of that to heart. It’s not real. I think it does more to highlight the relationship Dean had with his father (what he lacked and wanted but Adam got to occasionally enjoy), rather than develop any sort of real connection between the boys and their half brother. It’s also interesting to see Sam be the one prepared to train him and see the character evolution from the young adult who didn’t want to hunt to the man who understands this is part of his family’s life and will always be.
It would have been more compelling to use Adam Milligan alive and have the stakes be higher. But since he’d already died, the boys had no incentive to protect him or keep him alive. Especially after he basically betrays them by saying yes. If anything, he’s another plot device to show how Sam and Dean will constantly pick each other. (See also: Lisa, Amelia, Benny, et al.) It’s not actually family or blood they care about. If it was, they would care for Adam the way they do for each other. Even when they’re reminded about him in season 10, they don’t care enough to try to get him back even though Michael probably could’ve helped with the mark/Amara as much as Lucifer (which ended up being not at all). At least they wouldn’t have had the vessel drama.
I also tend to stay out of the angel side of the fandom because of my personal beliefs. As someone who works with Saint Michael though, the portrayal of Michael on the show was always disappointing. Michael is, first an foremost, a protector and defender, especially of those who serve him. I always just thought he would be shielding his vessel from whatever happened in the cage, not torturing them. (Balthazar’s comment about Lucifer and Michael hate-banging Sam’s soul never made sense tbh.) So it was nice to be proven right about that. I like selfcest so Michael/Adam is much more appealing to me than shipping him with Sam or Dean. Having the entity you’re in love with literally living inside you is much more codependent than anything the Winchesters could offer. And I’m sorry but that boy has a different last name so he doesn’t get included in Wincest for me!
