one. luke and sophia

October 21, 2022

Maddox walked out of the locker room running a hand through his dripping wet hair, he saw Luke and Sophia outside waiting for him.

“Maddi!” Luke happily grinned seeing his brother for the first time in almost a month.

Maddox quickly walked to his brother pulling him into a hug, “Hi Moose.” Maddox smiled slighty before they pulled away, he looked towards his best friend, “Phia.” Sophia grinned pulling her best friend into a tight hug having missed him.

“Hi Maddi.” Sophia smiled at him before they pulled away, Sophia leaned her head on her boyfriend’s arm and held his hand, “So what do you want for dinner?”

“You guys pick i don’t care.” Maddox just shrugged happy to be seeing two of his favorite people.

“Alright.” Luke nodded and the three got into Luke’s car and Luke drove them to a little dinner place.

The three got seated in a booth in the restaurant and started looking at the menu.

“You had a good game.” Luke commented to his brother, Maddox having had two assists and a goal, the blackhawks winning 4-3.

“Yeah i was alright.” Maddox just shrugged off the compliment, Sophia smiled shaking her head knowing Maddox hates compliments.

The three ordered their food and started catching up while they waited.

Maddox anxiously twisted his ring around his finger and his leg wouldn’t stop bouncing, he knew he wanted to tell his family and he knew Sophia and Luke were the safest option, he took a deep breath before blurting out the words he has never said outside to anyone before, “I’m Bi.”

Sophia and Luke shared a soft look.

“I know bud.” Luke smiled comforting at his older brother and best friend.

“What?” Maddox eyes widen in shock as he looked at his smiling brother.

“Maddi you made out with a guy after one of our tournaments.” Luke deadpanned with a fond smile.

“Why didn’t you say anything.” Maddox questioned playing with his fingers.

“Because i wanted to wait until you were comfortable of coming out to me.” Luke reached across the table and grabbed Maddox’s hand, “I’m proud of you and you are always my brother.” Luke proudly smiled at Maddox.

Maddox had no idea how much he needed to hear those words.

He looked over at Sophia who was watching her two boys with a fond smile, “Oh i knew too.” Sophia grinned at Maddox, Maddox just fondly shook his head at her, “What i’m your bestfriend of course i knew.” Sophia shrugged having known for along time, “But i’m proud of you.” Sophia squeezed Maddox’s arm gently looking at him proudly.

“Thank you.” Maddox choked out feeling touched for getting so much support from the two.

two. quinn

January 24, 2023

Maddox was texting on his phone in the hotel lobby when he got a text from Quinn, he stood up putting his phone into his pocket and walked out into the cold Vancouver weather seeing Quinn waiting in his car.

“Hi Mads.” Quinn fondly smiled seeing his little brother, Maddox smiled and let Quinn hug him over the center console.

Maddox and Quinn were both more quiet of people and honestly like silence a lot more than talking so they sat in comfortable silence until Quinn pulled into his apartment building parking garage.

Maddox and Quinn walked up to Quinn’s apartment and they both hoped onto Quinn’s couch, Quinn handed the controller to his brother as he turned on the TV and game system.

After they played a few rounds Quinn looked over at his little brother seeing his anxious ticks and had a feeling Maddox needed to say something.

Quinn paused the game and set his controller down, “Alright spill.”

“What?” Maddox looked up from the controller and towards Quinn.

“Tell me, you have something to say.” Quinn raised an eyebrow at Maddox.

Maddox let out a nervous breath and nodded knowing he does have something to tell Quinn, Maddox planned to tell Quinn when he came out to Vancouver for the Blackhawks at Canucks game.

“I’m bi.” Maddox mummled out not wanting to look at Quinn when he told him.

Quinn nodded slowly always having a feeling and saw some signs but wanted to wait till Maddox was comfortable.

Quinn wrapped an arm around Maddox’s shoulder and pressed a kiss to the top of his fluffy hair, “Thank you for telling me.”

Maddox’s head shot up shocked, “Your not disgustied?” Maddox honestly was the most worried about Quinn and Jack finding out about his sexuality and not Luke.

“Maddi your my brother, i love you no matter what there’s nothing you could do to change that.” Quinn held Maddox’s face in his hands.

“Oh.” Maddox whispered out, He just burried his head into Quinn’s chest and felt protected in his brother’s arms.

Quinn frowned having a feeling that’s something happen that made Maddox believe that he would think he is disgusted and when Quinn is going to find out who thought they could hurt his brother and get away with it.

February 27, 2023

Maddox was laying on his back on the hotel bed next to Alex, they had just played their game againt the Ducks and had lost.

Maddox and Alex are always roommates on roadies and they usually end up watching a movie or show together.

Maddox looked a the ceiling before blurting out, “I’m bi.” Maddox tightly closed his eyes nervously.

Alex just nodded not even looking awya from the TV, “Ok.”

“Ok?” Maddox repeated confused, his eyes shot open and he turned on to side facing Alex.

Alex fondly rolled his eyes pausing the movie, “Dude i’ve seen you mack on a guy before, i’ve know for a while.”

“I know.” Maddox nodded having known Alex knew, “I was coming out to you, you dickhead” Maddox fondly rolled his eyes.

Alex made a face, “Oh, Well i’m proud of you for coming out.” Alex patted his best friend’s shoulder, “Now can we keep watching the movie.”

“Ass.” Maddox fondly chuckled shoving Alex.

“Bud? What’s wrong?” Maddox frowned in concern as he opened his front door hearing a knock, seeing Connor standing there with the saddest look on his face and tears in his eyes.

“I-“ Connor chocked out breathing heavily and just into forwards into Maddox’s comforting arms, Maddox frowned and wrapped his arms around around Connor gently rubbing his back as he walked them backward and closed his front door.

Maddox kept Connor in his arms leading them to his living room, Maddox sat down on his couch and Connor sat next to him hiding his face in Maddox’s chest.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Maddox quietly asked running his hands through Connor’s hair knowing it calms him down.

Connor took a deep breath and blurted out, “I think i’m gay.” Connor waited anxiously for Maddox to say anything. Connor was scared and Maddox always feels the safest.

“I’m so proud of you for telling me.” Maddox wrapped his arms around him tightly pressing a kiss to his head, Connor let out a sob of relief and couldn’t help but cry. Maddox frowned knowing exactly how he is feeling right now.

“I’m bi.” Maddox told Connor once Connor calmed down.

“You are?” Connor looked up at Maddox with his puppy eyes.

“I am, and i understand how scared you’rere feeling right now, but i promise i’m always on your side okay buddy.” Maddox promised him, Connor smiled softly not knowing how he would have made it through the last few years with Maddox being there for him always.

“Thank you for always being there for me.” Connor mumbled hiding his face back into Maddox’s chest.

“Always bud, Always.” Maddox held Connor until Maddox looked down hearing little snores and saw him fast asleep.

December 22, 2023

Maddox walked in the kitchen of his parents house and saw his mom in the kitchen, “Mom, i uh was wondering if we could go out just us today.” Maddox had his hands behind his back anxiously fidgeting.

Ellen looked up seeing Maddox looking tense and frowned slighty, “Of course Maddi. Would you like to go now?” Ellen smiled softly at her boy.

“Sure, Coffee?” Maddox mischievously smiled knowing he got his love for coffee from his mother.

“Of course.” Ellen replied having alreadly planned to go get coffee with Maddox today, loving when her boys are home but it’s always nice to have someone who loves getting coffee to go with her.

Ellen knew all of boys like the back of her hand and she could tell Maddox wanted to tell her something. She drove them to their favorite coffee shop in Michigan and drove them through the drive thru.

Ellen ordered their coffee before pulling up and paying at the window and getting handed the coffee’s, she handed Maddox his and held her as she parked them into the parking lot.

“Got something you wanna talk about Maddi?” Ellen questioned softly looking over at her son seeing him look nervous.

Maddox took a deep breath and looked at his mom, “I’m bi.” Maddox clenched his eyes not wanting to see her face when he tells her.

Ellen proudly smiled at her sun and she gently cupped his face, “Maddy look at me.” Maddox slowly opened his eyes and saw his mother still looking at him the exact same.

Maddox’s looked shocked, “Your not disappointed?”

“Maddox Hughes, i could never be disappointed in you.” Ellen sternly spoke looking directly at her son, “And it was kinda obvious with how you act around Trevor.” She gave him a knowing smile and glance making him blush and look away.

June 15 2024

Maddox and Trevor both got to the lake house late last night having both been busy since the end of the season.

Maddox had to spend a week doing some captain stuff at the end of the season so Trevor left to LA to visit his friends and Jamie was joining him as well and to also pack up or get rid of the rest of the stuff at his Condo in LA. Maddox then went to watch some of Quinn’s playoff games and spend that time with his parents and Quinn before he headed out on a vacation catching up with his old teammates and their families from Tampa bay.

Jack also spent some time out in the Jersey Shore with his friends while Luke went to Michigan to see his friends and girlfriend and Quinn was in the playoffs.

Now all of the Hughes brothers got to the lake house the last few days. Maddox knew it was only a matter of time before all of the friends and teammates came over so he knew that he wanted to tell his brothers and best friend quickly about Trevor and him.

Luckily for Trevor and Maddox everyone was too tired to even notice that Trevor went with Maddox into Maddox’s instead of his normal guest room.

Trevor woke up looking down at his chest seeing Maddox peacefully sleeping on his arw chest, Trevor hummed contently and he could tell everyone else were still asleep besides Quinn.

Trevor hoped that everything went well with them telling everyone today.

Trevor eventually got Maddox out bed and Trevor headed down stairs before Maddox and saw Quinn cooking breakfast and Sophia eating with Luke resting his head on her arm looking like he was going to fall asleep again and Jack texting on his phone.

“What’s for breakfast Quinner!” Trevor grinned happily knowing it will get on Quinn’s nerves.

“Food.” Quinn deadpanned with a small smirk as he scooped some of the eggs onto a plate for Trevor and handed it to him.

Maddox came down a few minutes later looking like a zombie still half asleep as he stumbled straight to the coffee machine and quickly started drinking the black coffee he poured into his mug. Trevor fondly shook his head.

Maddox just shoved the food into his mouth as he was on his second cup of coffee.

Everyone else was just finished eating, Trevor looked over at Maddox giving him a look and Maddox nodded.

Trevor hopped up, “Jacky Boy, can i talk to you?” Trevor questioned as he gestured to the outside.

“Yeah sure man?” Jack answered following him outside.

“What’s that about?” Luke noisily questioned looking a Maddox for an answer.

“He’s telling Jack we are dating.” Maddox blunty told them drinking his coffee.

Sophia squealed, “Oh my god!! Finally!!!!” She hurried up and hugged Maddox.

“Thanks Phi.” Maddox mumbled to his best friend.

“Huh, took you long enough.” Luke shrugged not suprised they are together especially because Trevor has obviously been in love with Maddox for a long time.

“Out of anyone it had to be Trevor.” Quinn groaned teasing his brother.

“I know.” Maddox quipped back.

“Why is Trevor telling Jack?” Sophia questioned, wondering why Maddox or Trevor didn’t just tell them all together.

Maddox kind of froze up setting his coffee cup down, “I uh didn’t want to be the one to tell Jack.”

Quinn, Luke and Sophia shared a concerned look.

“Why not?” Quinn gently asked.

Maddox just shrugged, “We should make sure they aren’t killing each other out there.” Maddox weakly avoided the question and started walking to the backyard and the three followed him.

Jack and Trevor would outside, “Why’d we go outside Z?”

“I’m dating someone.” Trevor told him.

Jack eyes widen and he nodded, “Woah that’s great Z! How long?”

“Three months.” Trevor answered shortly.

“Three?!” Jack looked shocked knowing Trevor never has relationships that long.

“Look i’m dating a guy and i’m Bi, and if you have a problem with that.” Trevor coldly spoke to someone he once considered a best friend.

“What! No! Of course not!” Jack denied quickly he would never have a problem with that.

“I’m dating Maddox.” Trevor told him.

Jack opened his mouth in shock, “Maddi? My brother?” Jack looked incredibly shocked not thinking his brother is Bi or Gay.

“Yes.” Trevor curtly told Jack.

The two didn’t realize that the others had just walked into the back porch.

“He didn’t tell me?” Jack looked hurt, Maddox and him use to tell each other everything.

“And why do you think that is?” Trevor sarcastically asked crossing his arms over his chest.

“What Why?” Jack stammered out.

Quinn titled his head as he watched the two, he didn’t know there was a reason Maddox didn’t tell Jack because he thought Maddox did tell him.

“Do you remember what you said about him.” Trevor coldly questioned glaring at Jack, Jack frantically shook his head.

Luke and Quinn shared a look not liking where this is going. They never knew Jack has said something about Maddox.

“You said that he would never be gay, he isn’t. Hughes aren’t like that and Maddox would never be with a guy especially Z.” Trevor quoted exactly what Maddox told him.

Jack’s eyes widen and his face paled as he remembered when he said that, “I was drunk!” Jack protested quickly, Jack didn’t even think Maddox heard his words.

Quinn and Luke both look extremely angry as they now realized why Maddox didn’t come out to them for so long and why he was so scared.

Sophia felt her heart break knowing that Jack might not have meant the words but they definitely meant a lot to Maddox hearing them.

“You were but the words you said to Maddox wasn’t correct, do you even know how much they impacted him, you made him scared to come out to his own family.” Trevor sneered feeling his jaw shaking with emotion.

Maddox looked down at the floor, Quinn clenched his jaw shaking his head and wrapped his arm around his brother.

“I-“ Jack was wide eyed as he realized how his actions affected his little brother, Jack knew over the years that Maddox and him have not been at close and Jack just assumed it was because they lived so far away from each other but now he’s realizing it’s because he hurt his little brother.

“I don’t care if he is gay or bi, he’s my little brother. I really didn’t want him to be thinking about his sexuality when he was about to be drafted to the NHL because i knew it would be harder for him.” Jack admitted he didn’t want his brother to have to hide, “I love him no matter what and i’m glad that he has you.” Jack saw a new side of his best friend and he knew Trevor was good for Maddox.

Trevor nodded and turned away and walked back up to the pouch because he knew the others had walked outside, Trevor saw Maddox looking overwhelmed and wrapped his arm around him and started walking inside with him and Trevor nodded at the thankful look that Quinn gave him.

April 30, 2024

Maddox was reading on his bed well more like Trevor and his bed because Trevor has slept in the bed every night for the last month since they have been together.

Trevor walked into the bedroom and let out a tired breath as he slipped his shoes off and threw his jacket and phone and keys on the chair, He slipped his shirt off throwing it into the bin and walked into Maddox’s closet grabbing one of his soft shorts and put them on and quickly walked towards the bed and flopped down next to Maddox and wormed his way onto Maddox’s chest resting his head on his chest.

“Hi baby.” Maddox mumbled softly shutting his book close and throwing it next to him before he started running his hand gently through Trevor’s knotted curls.

“Hi love.” Trevor tiredly mumbled but made a happy sound as he leaned more into Maddox’s touch.

“Long day?” Maddox softly questioned, Trevor nodded soflty, Maddox leaned down placing a gently kiss on Trevor’s forehead, “Sleep i’ll be here when you wake.” Maddox watched as Trevor’s breathing became slower and his body became more relaxed and his face more peaceful.

Maddox smiled softly at the sight before picking his book back up and continuing where he left off.

Trevor slowly turned over feeling his eyes opening and could tell the sun was already down as the room was almost pitch black meaning he’s been sleeping on Maddox for a few hours.

“Hi sleepyhead.” Maddox smiled down at Trevor as he noticed him waking up. Maddox set his book down and fondly looked at his boyfriend

“Hi.” Trevor mumbled against Maddox’s stomach as he started to wake up.

Maddox just hummed and ran his fingers through Trevor’s hair again.

Trevor eventually woke up and sat up stretching he scooted over to sit shoulder to shoulder to Maddox and rested his head against Maddox’s.

“Do you want me to tell Jack? While you tell Quinn and Luke?” Trevor asked looking at Maddox, they both agreed to wait till the season was completely over and they met with their families and friends over the summer to tell them. Trevor and Maddox knew most of the blackhawks team had figured it out or suspected it already.

“Would you?” Maddox asked nervously, he had been dreading telling Jack about being bi and dating Trevor, Maddox was still scared of what Jack said.

“I will gladly tell him, i’m not letting him hurt you more.” Trevor sternly and protectively spoke to Maddox cupping his face softy. Trevor may think of Jack as his best friend but Jack has hurt Maddox extremely bad in the past and Trevor first priority is to make sure Maddox doesn’t get hurt again.

The NTDP team had just played their last game of their season in Sweden winning 5-2 against Canda and they decided to celebrate together. They knew you can drink at 18 in Sweden so a few of the teammates went and got alcohol and brought to the hotel room they were all in.

Maddox was leaning against the wall sitting on the floor as most of the team was all crowded in the small hotel room sitting and laying anywhere there was space.

Trevor smiled slight happy to see there is space next to Maddox and sat down next to him and put his head on Maddox’s lap, contenting falling asleep in Maddox’s lap.

Cam York smirked seeing Trevor fast asleep on Maddox’s lap, “Looks like Z is still making his moves on Teddy.”

Jack chuckled drinking his beer, “So?” He leaned his head back on the bed, not seeing the point as Trevor flirts with everyone, it was just Trevor being Trevor.

“How long you think until Teddy lets Z do something more?” Matt Boldy pipped in wondering when Maddox and Trevor would just make out already.

“Please Maddi would never, he isn’t gay. Hughes aren’t like that and Maddi would never be with a guy, especially not Z.” Jack drunkenly laughed no one seeing Maddox’s face flash with pain before clearing his face of any emotion and looking away from Jack and their drunk teammates.

Alex frowned looking at his best friend having a feeling that hurt Maddox a lot more than Jack knew.

Maddox who had only just recently accepted his sexuality and had planned to come out to his family when he got home knew he could never come out now, not if that is what Jack thinks, who knows what his family thinks. Maddox scooted over gently letting Trevor’s head lean on to the floor and not his lap anymore.

April 4, 2024

Maddox and Trevor were sitting out on their balcony on the outside couch enjoying one of the first days of warm weather.

Trevor was sitting between Maddox’s leg resting his back on Maddox’s chest.

Trevor was mindlessly tracing letters and shapes on his boyfriend’s leg, when he thought of something.

“Babe?” Trevor asked making Maddox hum, “Did you have any serious relationships the last few years?”

Trevor has been wondering this for a little while now, he not was worried because it’s in the past but more because they stopped being best friends for a few years so he didn’t get the chance to know much about Maddox’s life.

“Not a relationship nope.” Maddox shook his head pressing a kiss to Trevor’s cheek, “I did hook up with a few people and i had a friends with benefits with a teammate on the lighting.” Maddox knew in the last few years a relationship with anyone that wasn’t Trevor wouldn’t work.

“A friends with benefits?” Trevor turned around looking very curious as he straddled Maddox making Maddox wrap his arms around his waist.

“He came out to me when he was drunk and i told him i was bisexual back, he asked if we could hook up making it easier as we both weren’t out and lived in the same apartment building and was roommates on the road.” Maddox didn’t mind the arraignment because it did truthfully make it easier to hook up.

“What happened?” Trevor titled his head curiously, he was slightly jealous for the fact someone got to have Maddox when he couldn’t but he knows Maddox chose him so there is nothing to worry about.

“I got traded and i ended it.” Maddox nodded, gently rubbing circles on Trevor’s hip bone, “I guess he started wanting more but i didn’t feel anything for him and it wouldn’t be fair because i was and am in love with you.” Maddox softly smiled making Trevor bean and gently kiss Maddox real quick.

“He got angry that i didn’t want more than the arraignment and try’s to get my attention because apparently he’s in love with me.” Maddox rolled his eyes as he talked about it, any part of him that was once fond of someone he once called a friend and teamate was gone after he kept trying to get Maddox’s attention.

“Who is it?” Trevor pressed a kiss to Maddox’s cheek.

“Ross Colton.” Maddox mumbled rubbing his nose against Trevor’s cheek.

Trevor slowly nodded as he remembered all the photos and videos from Tampa of the two.

“You have nothing to be worried about baby. I never had any romantics feelings. And if i for some reason did they would be gone after he smashed my baby brother into the boards for my attention.” Maddox softly reassured Trevor wanting to make sure Trevor knows he’s it for Maddox and no one else.

“Oh he’s the one who hit Lukey in that game.” Trevor slowly nodded realizing exactly what game Maddox was talking about.

“He is.” Maddox nodded before smirking, “Now let’s stop talking about him.” Maddox pressed a kiss to Trevor’s neck and stood up holding Trevor by his thighs making Trevor sequel with laughter and hold onto Maddox tighter.

March 24, 2024

Maddox and Trevor had got in very late last night having a flight after the game in San Jose, the two have been getting closer again the last week after their conversation after the bar but they hadn’t had anytime to have a talk about their relationship yet or time to do something more for their relationship.

Maddox blinked slightly looking down seeing Trevor laying against his side, Maddox let out a comfortable hum and brushed his fingers through Trevor’s hair. Maddox bit back a groan hating to get up but wanted to do this for Trevor.

Maddox slowly slipped out of the bed and slipped a pillow between Trevor’s arms and quietly walked out of the bedroom shutting the door behind him, he walked to the front door and opened it picking up the bags of groceries he order off the front door mat and brought them all into the kitchen.

He started making breakfast, french toast, scrambled eggs, hash browns and bacon, he didn’t know how he managed to cook everything without waking up Trevor.

He got himself a cup of coffee and set it onto the tray with all the food and a glass of orange juice for Trevor.

Maddox picked the tray up and walked done the hallway and into his bedroom, he saw Trevor’s eyes slowly fluttering open.

Maddox sat on his side of the bed setting the tray in front of him, he brushed Trevor’s hair off his forehead making Trevor hum and lean into his touch, “Morning.” Maddox mumbled.

“Hi.” Trevor smiled and scored forward resting his head on Maddox’s thigh looking curiously at all the food, “What’s this?”

“For you.” Maddox nervously responded seeing Trevor smiling happily as he looked at the food, Trevor looked up at Maddox noticing him fiddling with his fingers nervously.

Trevor gently put his hand over Maddox’s hand giving Maddox an encouraging and comforting look having a feeling Maddox is trying to say something.

Maddox took a deep breath, “I’m sorry, that i pushed you away and the way i’ve acted the last few years, you didn’t deserve that Trevor.” Maddox took a shuttering breath. Trevor leaned up still holding onto Maddox’s hands.

“I’ve loved you for years now Trevor Zegras, ever since Jack brought home his new teammate that was so loud and had the fluffiest hair, i hated for a long time that i couldn’t help but love you and i tried for years to get over you and it never worked. I realized that i never truly wanted to be over you, i want to be with you however you will have me and i’m going to be making up the way i’ve treated you for the rest of our lives and i know i don’t deserve to ask for your love but i would very much like to be yours if you would have me.” Maddox chocked out the words he has kept hidden for years feeling his face covered in tears.

Trevor let out a watery laugh as tears were falling down his cheeks, “Maddox i’ve already forgiven you. But yes i would love to be yours and for you to be mine.” Trevor smiled widely resting his head on Maddox forehead getting his dream to finally come true.

Maddox let out a breath and slowly leaned closer letting the two’s lip brush, Trevor smiled even wider seeing Maddox not pulling away this time and he pressed their lips in a desperate manner, both letting out sighs as they finally shared their first kiss with each other.

Maddox smiled widely as they pulled back, happy that he didn’t mess everything up again. He pressed multiple kisses on ever inch of Trevor’s face making Trevor’s body shake with giggles as Maddox continued to press a kiss everywhere.

Maddox pressed one more soft kiss to the top of Trevor’s nose and rested his forehead against Trevor’s, “Thank you baby.” Maddox lovingly muttered to Trevor, thanking him for forgiving him and thanking him for giving him another chance.

Trevor flushed bright red at the pet name but still smiled pleased, “Of course. Now can i eat the food?” Trevor stomach rumbled as he spoke making Maddox let out a fond laugh but pushed the tray closer to them.

Maddox leaned againt the headboard as Trevor leaned against Maddox’s chest and Maddox wrapped an arm around Trevor’s shoulder and he pressed soft kisses to the top of Trevor’s head as Trevor cut up the french toast and started eating, Trevor made a happy sound as he tasted the food always loving anything Maddox makes.

“I could die happy.” Trevor moaned as he kept eating the food Maddox made him, Maddox smiled softly pressing a kiss to the side of Trevor’s neck and smiled when Trevor held the fork up for him.

“Not bad.” Maddox hummed as he chewed on the french toast.

Trevor gave Maddox a playful offended look, “Not bad! Theo it’s amazing!” Trevor grumbled and ate more of the food.

Maddox just shook his head fondly and picked up his coffee cup enjoying the comfortable silence as Trevor happily ate all the food still offering a few bites to Maddox.

Trevor moved the tray to the side of the bed after he finished eating and he rested his head back onto Maddox’s bare chest tracing shapes onto Maddox’s arm.

Trevor let out a breath loving being in Maddox’s arm and knowing Maddox loves him too, Trevor’s eyes widen dramatically and he sat up quickly.

“What’s wrong?” Maddox asked in concern leaning up with Trevor.

“I’m so sorry!” Trevor frowned sadly, “I love you too Maddox Hughes.” Trevor smiled at Maddox feeling terrible he never said it back.

“Oh.” Maddox mumbled bashful feeling his face heat up.

Trevor raised an eyebrow smirking, “Are you blushing baby?” Trevor leaned forward gently holding Maddox’s chin lifting his head up and making eye contact.

“Shut up.” Maddox grumbled trying to avoid eye contact with his boyfriend.

Maddox woke up the smell of coffee and an a warm spot next to him instead of a body. Maddox grumbled rubbing his eyes climbing out of bed.

He stumbled down his hallway into the kitchen seeing Trevor humming as he made a cup of coffee at the coffee machine and Maddox could feel his whole face soften.

Maddox quietly walked up behind Trevor wrapping his arms around Trevor’s bare waist burying his head into Trevor’s neck.

Trevor tensed at the feeling of arms around him before relaxing knowing it’s Maddox, “Your supposed to be sleeping.” Trevor groaned whining.

“You left.” Maddox mumbled into Trevor’s neck pressing a soft kiss.

“I wanted to suprise you with coffee.” Trevor pouted playing with Maddox’s hand that was rested on his abs.

“Come back to bed.” Maddox mumbled trying not to fall asleep holding Trevor.

“You’ll stay in bed so i can bring you coffee later?” Trevor pouted still wanting to bring Maddox coffee in bed.

March 15, 2024

The Blackhawks had just played against the kings and had a great game. Lucky for the team it was a Friday and they didn’t have any practice tomorrow so most of the team all decided to go out to the bar that they usually go to as a team.

Trevor hadn’t really had a chance yet to go out after a game they won with the whole team, he mostly stuck near Maddox or was messing around with Kevin, Kevin the one Trevor has gotten closest with on the team so far.

Maddox stood up excusing himself from the table seeing a friend. Trevor frowned watching him leave and watched him walk over to a guy near the bar and they greeted each other.

Trevor frowned not liking what he was seeing but turned his attention back to Kevin who was goofing off but entertaining Alex, Lukas and Connor.

Trevor noticed that after a good while Maddox still had not returned yet and frowned deeper he turned his head and felt his heart drop.

Trevor glared feeling angry as he watched Maddox flirting with a guy, Maddox letting the guy whisper into his ear and kissing his cheek. Trevor could feel the realization set in that Maddox does likes guys just not him.

Maddox looked up feeling eyes on him and saw Trevor staring at him with a heartbreaking look on his face before leaving his glass on the table and rushing out. Maddox detached from the guy and rushed out after Trevor.

“Trev!” Maddox called out seeing Trevor starting the walk back to their apartment, Maddox could see how tense Trevor was walking and could tell he was ignoring him, Maddox jogged over and caught up with Trevor, he gently grabbed his arm stopping Trevor, “What’s wrong?” Maddox frowned wanting to know why Trevor is upset.

“You like guys.” Trevor whispered as no matter how angry he, he didn’t want to say it loudly incase someone was around.

Maddox tensed looking around, “Can we not did this here?”

Trevor responded with a curt nod and Maddox dropped his arm. They walked in tense silence all the way back to the apartment.

“Why didn’t you tell me.” Trevor demanded the second the door was shut.

“I have barely told anyone.” Maddox looked away from Trevor. Maddox closed his eyes taking a deep breath.

“Why?” Trevor questioned walking closer to Maddox, “Because years ago you acted different, you would sometimes flirt back and let me touch you without you tensing and moving away, and we use to text all the time, i thought we were friends and then suddenly you went cold and i always referred as your brothers best friend not your friend. Why.” Trevor tearfully demanded asking the things he has wanted to know for years. Trevor hated that one day he woke up and it was like Maddox was a different person towards him.

“I was scared.” Maddox emotionally choked out, he shook his head feeling his eyes full with tears, “It took me so long to accept who i was and you helped in a lot that, and i was ready to tell you how i felt about you and to come out to everyone else but Jack had said somethings one day and it scared me, it pushed back all the progress i had made and i wasn’t ready anymore for anyone to know and i was hurt and i couldn’t do anything with you because i didn’t want anyone knowing.” Maddox tearfully spoke feeling the tears run down his face as he looked at Trevor, who also had tears running down his face.

Maddox truthfully always hated that he shut Trevor out but he was so scared that someone would find out that he was Bi that he couldn’t take the chance with his feelings towards Trevor possibly showing to anyone was else, and he hated himself for shutting out Trevor especially seeing how much it hurt him.

“Oh Theo, what did Jack say.” Trevor frowned seeing how hurt Maddox looked as he talked, Trevor could feel a lot of the anger drain from him seeing the hurt and sadness from Maddox as he stepped closer to Maddox.

“It was after our last game in the NTDP, you um had fell asleep on my lap and the guys were teasing us and then asked Jack when they thought we would get together.” Maddox started explaining the day that was one of the worst days, Trevor frowned remembering how he had woken up with a blanket on him but Maddox no where to he seen, “Jack denied it saying i could never be gay, that Hughes aren’t like that and that i would never be with you. It scared me because i hadn’t come out to anyone yet so hearing what one of my brothers thought of me being bi or gay, it sent into defense mode, i’m sorry.” Maddox had his head hung sniffling.

Trevor felt his jaw clench in anger of what Jack had said and seeing how much it has effect Maddox and Jack is lucky he isn’t here right now or Trevor would punch the shit out of him.

Trevor took a deep breath forgetting the anger for right now more worried and Maddox, he walked over gently cupping Maddox’s face wiping his tears, “Look at me. Forgot what Jack said he’s a dumbass okay, you’re allowed to like guys and a Hughes can be gay. You have nothing to be sorry for Maddox Hughes, you were scared and you protected yourself. I could never be mad about that.” Trevor gently rubbed his thumbs against Maddox’s cheekbones as he spoke to Maddox, “Okay?”

Yes, Trevor was angry that Maddox shut him out for so long but Trevor also knew Maddox was scared and was trying to protect himself so Trevor couldn’t be that angry even if he tried too.

“Okay.” Maddox slowly nodded not knowing how much he needed to hear someone say that to him.

“Why don’t we get some sleep?” Trevor could see how exhausted Maddox was. Trevor also knowing being emotional makes Maddox extremely tired.

“Can you stay?” Maddox quietly asked knowing Trevor would understand what he was asking, remembering the days they used to fall asleep in the same bed. Maddox didn’t know if he had the right to ask anymore but he asked what he had been wanting for a long time.

Trevor could feel his heart soften completely, “Of course, just let me get changed.” Trevor smiled widely and they walked down the hallway to their bedrooms, Trevor headed into his room getting changed out of his clothes and into a pair of black sweatpants and ducks shirt.

Trevor walked into Maddox’s room seeing him only in a pair of grey sweatpants and laying down in bed, Trevor smiled slightly as Maddox lifted the covers on the other side of the bed, Trevor got into the bed and Maddox scooted a little closer to him.

Trevor slowly put his arm around Maddox and could feel as Maddox relaxed.
