Yes hello everyone I am back to bring you all something I've been working on for a long time for birthday boy Jonghyun!!! 

Instead of a writing challenge though I wanted something that anyone could participate in and something to also show appreciation for the writers in this fandom so this time it's a fanfic recommendation event with only one goal: the fanfic that you recommend has to have a Jonghyun (or Junghee!!) that you love and cherish inside of your heart : )

It doesn't have to be your favorite fic. It doesn't have to be your favorite pairing. It doesn't have to be your favorite writing style or your favorite story. All it has to be is one of your favorite Jonghyuns!!

Be it in terms of character development or the aesthetic that he has or his personality or the choices that he makes or just. Anything!!! Maybe you love him because he brings you comfort at 2 a.m. reading fanfiction to fall asleep or maybe you love him because you think his actions in the face of whatever conflict he’s facing are super admirable or maybe you love him because he is an insufferable little gremlin creature. That's valid too. This April it's all about loving and cherishing Jonghyun in all of his forms : ) 

And like I said before, this is also about appreciating the writers in this fandom, so I'm also collaborating with @summerof5hinee on twitter!! They've been doing so much these past couple of years to reinvigorate and spread awareness for the shinee fanfiction community on twitter and ao3 so I'm super excited to have their help with this event uwu 

Guidelines:

The event starts April 1st and runs through the entire month to end on the 30th

If the fic is already on tumblr, reblog it!

If it's on another site, make a link post for it!

(The link post is important because otherwise it won't show up in the tags. It is ugly but sometimes we have to suffer and that is okay)

Write as little or as much as you want about why you love that particular Jonghyun in the tags or in the post itself! And consider leaving a comment on the actual fanfic itself as well!

my favorite jonghyuns: this evil softy

this jonghyun is, for lack of a better word, evil. like unapologetically. he is a boogeyman and his job is to torture kids with hallucinations and nightmares until they kick it and he is mean and cold and relentless and very good at his job

and as a queer. as a convoluted cocktail of labels that society loves to demonize. as a grubby little freak. i think that is very valid and also kind of hot

but you know what else this jonghyun is. soft. definitely not on purpose and he is definitely grumpy about it which is. obviously. even softer. he definitely did not mean to feel sympathy for taemin and he did not mean to just hang out with him at night during his teenage years feeling gay and he did not mean to let taemin worm his way into his heart. but he did anyway

and listen. as a queer. as a home of sexual. as a little gay baby. as a sub. i go absolutely feral over the trope of a "bad guy" being soft and nice and gentle for one person 

and you know what else else!!! even when he's being soft this jonghyun is still a dickhead lmao like. "hey i'm sorry” but then when taemin looks at him there’s just a huge giant hallucinatory spider instead. that's so funny. at least look him in the eye when you're being honest dude

also the absolute smugness of "missed me?" at the end what an icon that's so hot and also very transparent you soft little creature of the night

my favorite jonghyuns: this solid comfort 

this jonghyun. is. such. a warm comfort to me 

and like really all it is is that he's just. there. you know.

 like first of all that jonghyun would notice that taemin had been gone for so long to get worried and get up at 3 in the morning to go wandering around looking for him without even putting a jacket on and then wake him up and get him to come back inside... the security

 but then also to start the story with taemin wandering off on his own and getting lost in his thoughts and falling asleep somewhere he really shouldn't all for him just to be woken up by jonghyun and spend some time with him and get reassurance from him and allow jonghyun to ground him... the cinematic parallels... the warmth that i feel in my heart 

and the fact that jonghyun didn't even really say anything or do anything specific he was just. there. very solidly and definitely there. like i don't know how to describe it but the way he is described by the author just feels so real and present and reassuring in his presentness if that makes sense. the hug that they have... how jonghyun accepts it and returns it and you can just feel the comfort radiating off of him... i am cozy and warm

my favorite jonghyuns: This romantic Sky pirate

romantic more as in wistful adventurous idealistic fantastical passionate more than the interpersonal form of the word

this is a jonghyun that had my heart ever since the first time i ever read this fanfiction this is a jonghyun that had me coming back over and over to what used to be my notp this is a jonghyun that i think started my love for the trope of "one person stays in the same place all the time and the other person comes and goes very rarely" this is a jonghyun that took my love for skyship universes and solidified it by never letting me forget him

he's just so!!! rugged and carefree and passionate and attentive!! he’s forward and to the point while still being playful and silly!! he matches keys banter so well and has conversations with him about their lives and differences and he teases key sometimes yeah but he's never really outright disrespectful except for their one argument that he did apologize for 

and he adapts to key also without losing any parts of himself like. at first he tries being subtle and then when that doesn't work he takes a more direct approach and both are so uniquely him that neither feels out of place 

i love how in love he is with the sky and then later on i love how sure he is that he's in love with key i just love that he's so sure of himself and his love and he never ever backs down on that 

 and i love that he romanticizes his own love so much you can hear it in the way he talks about the sky and being part of his crew and you can hear it in the way he explains to key that he wants to stay grounded with him

my favorite jonghyuns: this bright firecracker

i love this junghee!!! she just has so much bright bubble gum pink she is energy!!!

like from the moment she enters she is a blur of pink diving headfirst onto her stomach on the couch and smiling at key with her chin in her hand. from the moment she enters i am in love

i love that she instantly starts monologuing about her pokemon and i love that she makes big loud noises for her big loud emotions and i love that she wails through the house for key to save her from tiny little spider and i love that she has song samples just saved as numbers on her computer

i love that their eyes eyes sparkle!! i love that her smile is boxy and bright and contagious!!! i love that she swamps herself in giant turtlenecks!!! i love that her speaking voice is dark and sparkly and her humming voice is peachy pink!!! they just have so much like. energetic physicality to them. just in the way that they are and the way that she acts and the things that she does like!!! it radiates off of her and makes me feel !!! also

and i love her curiosity and the way she is so carefree and easy going in her acceptance!! it feels very warm in my heart how easy it is to be comfortable with her and the reverse is also true with how carefree and easy going she is in her own queerness like. "i think it smells like lesbianism” icon??? their entire little conversation about the end????? the essence of being gay 

my favorite jonghyuns: this hot babe 

okay listen. listen. all of these jonghyuns i've been recommending for very like specific detailed things like their morals or their personality or the way they interact with others and i have been trying to avoid just being like "this one is hot i'm gay lol" but. this junghee is hot i’m gay lol

 i like that's really all i have to say about her. could i talk about how nice and reassuring and comforting she is??? yeah. but that's really just also. why she is so hot.

like just listen. hot girl with crop top and pierced tiddies and a septum and. she is so confident and brisk and charming. every word out of her mouth that isn't professional is flattery. she holds taeyeons boob and brushes her hair back behind her ear... am i not supposed to be blushing right now as i speak this paragraph into existence
