#mff2022

Midwest Furfest 2022 was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Every single fur/person I met there was so kind and thoughtful. The staff there did everything they could to ensure we all had a great time and I can’t thank them enough. Fursuiters, despite probably being asked more than a hundred times, were more than happy to take pictures with me without hesitation. They didn’t owe me even one picture and yet they sounded just as enthusiastic every time regardless.

I have never felt so welcomed and wanted in a fandom that I love and appreciate so much. There’s a bunch of stigmas around the furry fandom, but this experience has beat most of them out for me. When I was in the grand ball room with my friends on the final night, I thought, ‘this is exactly where I am supposed to be.’

Finding a place to belong has been so difficult for me and I feel like I finally found that place with people who mean the world to me.

I will treasure every last moment of this trip for the rest of my life. It taught me to stay in the present and to absorb every beautiful shining moment that I have. This life is mine to live and I will not waste one second of it. I danced even though I couldn’t and it didn’t even matter. I stepped out of my comfort zone to talk to every person I could. I lived with purpose those 4 days and it isn’t going to stop there.

On the ride back to the hotel on the final night, our Uber driver told us something. He said, “Everyone has that childish innocence inside of them that wants to be seen.” I had never thought of it that way before and he was right. There’s something beautiful within all of us, furry or not, that just wants to express themselves in the purest form possible. I got to bear witness to that this past weekend. I got to see the best part of everyone that attended that convention.
