But, like Baldwin said, I am being educated in all of the atrocities that have been done to POC. I don't mean to be on the late train but I now understand that the "bad part of town" is another way to say "the POC live there". I thought I lived around mostly Mexician people because we wanted to be around mostly Mexican people but that's all we could afford. The apartments were all we could afford because when my grandparents got here from Mexico, they had nothing. POC mostly live in the "bad part of town" because we have always been 12 steps behind. I'm angry, and I'm sad. I was told today that "Merit" doesn't exist. The idea that if you work hard enough you will make it big is a lie. It's a lie we were told to keep us passive. If we keep working under the idea that someday we will make it big, we will work for the rest of our lives. That's what rich [WHITE OLD MEN] want. My people pick their fruit and black people picked their cotton and POC seem to still be the hard workers who never reap the reward. I dont know what to do with this but I'll make sure to do something.
