i don't really think the model-as-reference rule for artfight really amounts to much just because of how impossible it would be to grade against it. like sure if youre tracing 1-to-1 over an image there's a good chance you could tell, but honest to god who would care enough about that to report it???
the only thing i dislike strongly about it is that its a relic from the whole holier-than-thou sentiment around Adonis Artist With No References versus Chudly Noob Who Uses References. have we truly not grown at all since deviantart 2014 humblebragging about never having seen an image of a pair of clasped hands before
with the newfound immortality of all mankind in mind, i do want to say what a profound impact 17776 has had on me. i don't think i really understood what Digital Literature was/what it could be before i read it, as an artpiece that really depends on its medium to tell its story, and it came with the realization that i could make art like that too. 17776 is just such a foundational piece in my mind that made it Click for me that i can make art about the things i want, in the way that i want to, using whatever tools i want. so thank you jon bois
