MyETF Dow Jones U.S.
KUALA LUMPUR: i-VCAP Management Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of ValueCap Sdn Bhd, launched its MyETF Dow Jones US Titans 50 (MyETF-US50) fund that will invest in Shariah-compliant top 50 blue chip counters in the US.
The fund is also the first US dollar denominated Islamic ETF to be listed on Bursa Malaysia.
"In Malaysia, there are currently nine ETFs, five of which are Shariah-compliant. But there has been an absence of Islamic US-centric funds that are publicly available, and that is about to change with our MyETF-US50," i-VCAP chief executive officer Khairi Shahrin Arief Baki said at the launch here today.
Khairi said the fund provides investors with immediate exposure into medium to long-term investment horizon in the companies of the Benchmark Index.
“Those looking for short term opportunities can arbitrage between the net asset value and the unit price trading prices,” he added.
Also present at the media briefing were i-VCAP chairman Rosli Abdullah and ValueCap managing director & group chief executive officer Sharifatu Laila Syed Ali.
Rosli said the MyETF-US50 will address the current investment appetite for Shariah-compliant US equities in US dollars. This new product is exempted from stamp duty.
ValueCap is owned by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP) and Permodalan Nasional Bhd.
An exchange traded fund (ETF) is similar to a mutual fund except that it can be bought and sold like a share as it is traded in real time on a stock exchange.
Like a unit trust, ETFs provide exposure to a basket of securities but incur lower fees as they are passively managed.
This fund brings the number of Shariah compliant ETFs in Malaysia to six and the tenth to be listed on Bursa Malaysia.
MyETF-US50 is an open-ended fund with an approved fund size of 500 million units, it is tentatively scheduled for listing on the Bursa Securities Market on February 28, 2018. It is the fifth in i-VCAP’s MyETF series.
The subscription period for the fund ends February 9, 2018 at US$1.00 per unit with a minimum subscription size of 100 units.
The MyETF-US50 is aimed at providing investment results that correspond to the performance of the benchmark index, the Dow Jones Islamic market US Titans 50, Khairi added.
Its Benchmark Index consists of the 50 largest Shariah-compliant US. companies by float-adjusted market capitalisation. Notable blue-chip companies include Apple Inc, Microsoft Corp, Facebook Inc, Johnson & Johnson and Exxon Mobil Corp.
The MyETF-US50 would further spark awareness among Malaysian investors on ETF as an asset class.
“Investment products such as ETFs are especially appealing within the current market environment as they can provide fair net investment returns because investors are not burdened by high charges and fees,” Khairi said.
He also pointed out that ETFs provide a competitive alternative for retail and institutional investors looking to broaden their investment portfolios over the medium to long-term, as the fees are lower as compared to other collective investment schemes or funds in the local market.
