OBJECT OF THE WEEK (09th to 15th November, 2020) Due to spread of COVID-19 pandemic the museums throughout the world are closed but identifying different innovative ways to remain connected to their visitors. Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (National Museum of Mankind) has also taken up many new initiatives to face the challenges posed by this pandemic. In one such step it is coming up with a new series entitled ‘Object of the Week’ to showcase its collection from all over India. Initially this series will focus on the masterpieces from its collection which are considered as unique for their contribution to the cultural history of a particular ethnic group or area. These masterpieces belong to the “AA” & “A” category. There are 64 objects in these categories. DEEPARANI, A Decorated bell metal lamp Panchadipa Lakshmi, popularly known as Deeparani, is a lamp portraying the imperial visit of a queen to a temple on an elephant. The queen is shown holding five wicks (Panchadipa) in her hands with a gesture of Anjali or a stance to offer the flame of ‘divine light.’ Cast by the lost wax technique, it amply demonstrates the skill of a traditional Dhokra metal craftsman of West Bengal. The symmetrical composition of the lamp-stand, together with its decorative danglers in the form of flower buds, hooded snakes, and jingles, is an ideal accessory for worship. The present object is an artistic expression of a scenario captured by the artist in his mind during his childhood. ‘सप्ताह का प्रादर्श’ (09 से 15 नवम्बर, 2020 तक) कोविड-19 महामारी के प्रसार के कारण दुनिया भर के संग्रहालय बंद है लेकिन यह सभी अपने दर्शकों के साथ निरंतर रूप से जुड़े रहने के लिए विभिन्न अभिनव तरीके अपना रहे हैं। इंदिरा गांधी राष्ट्रीय मानव संग्रहालय ने भी इस महामारी द्वारा प्रस्तुत की गई चुनौतियो का सामना करने के लिए कई अभिनव प्रयास प्रारंभ किए है। अपने एक ऐसे ही प्रयास के अंतर्गत मानव संग्रहालय ‘सप्ताह का प्रादर्श’ नामक एक नवीन श्रृंखला प्रस्तुत कर रहा है। पूरे भारत से किए गए अपने संकलन को दर्शाने के लिए संग्रहालय इस श्रंखला के प्रारंभ में अपने संकलन की अति उत्कृष्ट कृतियां प्रस्तुत कर रहा है जिन्हें एक विशिष्ट समुदाय या क्षेत्र के सांस्कृतिक इतिहास में योगदान के संदर्भ में अद्वितीय माना जाता है। यह अति उत्कृष्ट कृतियां संग्रहालय के ‘AA’और ‘A’ वर्गों से संबंधित हैं। इन वर्गों में कुल 64 प्रादर्श हैं। दीपारानी, मिश्र धातु का अलंकृत दीपक दीपा रानी के नाम से ज्ञात पंचदीपा लक्ष्मी एक दीपक है जिसमें एक रानी को हाथी पर सवार होकर मंदिर जाते हुए प्रदर्शित किया गया है। रानी अपने हाथों में अंजलि या दिव्य प्रकाश की लौ भगवान को अर्पित करने की मुद्रा में पंचदीप पकड़े हुए है। लॉस्ट वैक्स तकनीक से ढाला गया यह दीपक पश्चिम बंगाल के पारंपरिक ढोकरा धातु शिल्पकार के कौशल को प्रदर्शित करता है। कलियों, नागों और घंटियों से सुसज्जित दीपक की यह सममित संरचना पूजा में प्रयुक्त एक आवश्यक वस्तु है। यह प्रादर्श एक ऐसे परिदृश्य की कलात्मक अभिव्यक्ति है जिसे कलाकार ने बचपन में अपने मस्तिष्क में संजोया था। आरोहण क्रमांक – 97.491 स्थानीय नाम – दीपारानी, मिश्र धातु का अलंकृत दीपक जनजाति / समुदाय – डोकरा स्थानीयता – बांकुड़ा , पश्चिम बंगाल माप – ऊँचाई – 170 सेमी, चौड़ाई- 51 सेमी। श्रेणी – ‘ए’ #deeparani #metallamp #panchadipa #fivewickedlamp #goddesslakshmi #dokracasting #bellmetallamp #traditionaltechnology #dokracommunity #dokracraftsman #bankuraart #peopleofbankura #peopleofwestbengal #igrms #museumfromhome #objectoftheweek #ethnograhicobject #museumobject #museumofman #museumofmankind #museumofhumankind #experienceigrms #igrmsstories #staysafe #stayhealthy #covid19 https://www.instagram.com/p/CHW5cG2Fxz_/?igshid=3gmlag15is2d
