it was uncomfortable; lestat wanted to laugh in the moment, but held his tongue. he displayed a reverence for her he didn't have for other characters. i believe the paragraphs also contained the lines about how gabrielle regarded lestat as an extension of her own body. that felt foundational to their relationship. i would have preferred her colder, more remote. less like lovers in the recollections (at least so early), more like a woman telling a secret to her other self, her body that exists outside herself. something selfish, loving. conspiratorial, confessional. bitter.

gabrielle/lestat in the show feels less like another strange, twisted relationship and more like a shockjock routine, relying on knee-jerk revulsion to taboo instead of being interesting on its own. without the context of the mother-son incest, it's just kind of dull.
