Getting feminine?
Hey again. Long time, but I’ve been busy with work, uni and general life.
For 23 years I’ve felt childish. I felt insecure, unkempt, not in touch with reality, angry and other adjectives for feeling immature. I thought, for a long time, that it was cool to not look put together, to have an ‘I don’t care at all’ attitude and to not care about other people and their thoughts. 23 years later I regret it. I don’t know how to look put together, I don’t really now anything about what’s going on in the world, I don’t really have that man hobbies other than binging Netflix (and yes, I know that’s not a hobby, but a way to let time pass by quickly), I eat like a child and I speak before thinking. That’s gotta stop, right?
How to look put together 101.
Your hair: A good rule for me is to quit washing it every day but instead every other day. Oil the hair before washing it and then do a double cleanse if needed. After the shower comb it out with a wide tooth comb and let it air-dry if the time is for it. Make sure the back of the hair isn’t parted. Tease it or use a dry shampoo for volume. If wanted curl the hair into soft curls. Otherwise, a hit is some sort of a half-updo, a low bun or even a hairband for those busy days.
Makeup: Less is more. Have a clean face (see part about skincare) and apply some foundation or concealer on read areas. Then apply some blush or bronzer. Fill in your brows, but in their natural shape - they don’t need to look big. Eyeliner on the top lid, in a thin line and a tiny wing if you wish. Mascara on the lashes. A pink-ish lipstick and violá!
Skincare: Try to use as natural products as possible. Take your mascara off with a makeup remover or and oil. Wash the face twice a day with a face wash. In the morning simply spray on some face spray and apply a face cream, some SPF and a lip balm. At night apply an eye cream and a night cream as well as a lip balm. Once a week use an exfoliater and a face mask. Scrub your lips a few times a week.
Nails: Keep them clean and neatly cut. Apply a natural or maybe even a red polish.
Clothes: Can be anything, as long as it’s clean and some-what coordinated.
How to be smarter.
- Watch or read the news daily. Don’t just read about gossip but about current events.
- Learn about the history of different countries, such as wars, politics, the population and such things.
- Read daily, aim for at least 30 minutes per day. Whatever you like, but try to stay away from cartoons and magazines - at least not within those 30 minutes?
- Podcasts, podcasts, podcasts.
Hobbies.
- Baking; I love to bake bread and buns.
- Reading; My favorite books at the moment is by Jenny Colgan, who writes so sweet and dreamy books.
- Knitting.
- Drawing; Currently trying to draw the Moomin Trolls, whom I grew up loving.
- Walking; I love taking long walks by myself through the woods near my hometown or taking my parents dog on a walk by the meadows.
Happy Meal to gourmet.
I’m not kidding you, my diet is bad. I realised that by watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, when one of the female leads, Amy Santiago, told her co-worker his diet was like one of a child; no vegetables or fruits, water or anything healthy. Of course I eat my fruits, some veggies, drink water and have oats daily. But I’m not kidding you when I tell you that I’ve gone into the habit of having a handfull or more of candy on the daily, junk multiple times a week and stuff like that. It’s bad. So here is my advice to myself:
- Drink 1,5 - 2 litres of water a day.
- Try to limit your daily candy to a few pieces of dark chocolate with a cup of tea at night - or a banana with peanutbutter if you’re feeling extra healthy.
- Don’t buy store bought bread, except if it’s rye bread, but bake your own bread. It’s cheaper, taste better and doesn’t really upset your stomach.
- Don’t use milk for drinking straight from a cup. That is for kids.
Use your head.
Simply, think things through before saying anything. You don’t need to tell everyone about your family, the night out, your bra shopping or your period. Nobody cares about that.
