sry i genuinely love talking about vash's extremism . this screenshot of meryl chiding the earth fleet always comes to mind because it perfectly mirrors vash's mindset over the past 13 volumes:

#its why i feel a little glee when his heart breaks for realizing how much he minimized wolfwoods pain w the coward comment #the last two scs probably arent the most explanatory but vashs belief that him and knives can just escape 'society' (joker voice) whenever #its convenient for them..must be nice to choose ykwim..#its a little funny bc knives becomes so grotesquely nonhuman in the physical sense as he grows the fusion #but vash has always felt like the more distanced twin when it came to sociability #his facade is warm and cordial but he feels truly isolated ykwim .. how he refers to his age even to strangers (‘i dont think so’ when #talking to the sheriff) and reticence w the shipmates who Do know of his identity (brad and jessica)#ehehee.. another twin subversion i rly enjoy #i like when fandom delves in2 the colder aspect of vashs personality .. bites my lip or whageverrr ..#vash #millions knives #trigun #trigun maximum #meryl #im not saying all of this 2 imply that vash doesnt understand or want to enact violence himself #we know through monev that he DOES but #more so his belief that other people ought to adhere to his (and his idea of rem’s) belief system #eww i said belief twice in that sentence #but yeah the like . insistence that vash knows better than others just bc hes lived longer but it doesnt work out dat way #i honestly feel like im missing the mark w this one but ur just gonna have 2 read my mind #somethingg smthingg : vash’s identity as an independent allows him 2 seamlessly adopt his pacifism bc he exists outside the boundary of what #most people are subjected to #and i like when that difference works in text to separate him from others or highlight his privilege #in this very niche sphere bc obviously the plants have their own thing goign onnn #but when it comes to his fundamental core in early trigun??yarrr💪
