Merwyn is my favorite kind of villain.
The kind that just wants to walk their own path, make their own decisions, do better for others, but inevitably it is their own naïve understanding of the world that is their ultimate down fall.
Throughout all the episodes, you are torn between wanting to tell her that what she wishes for her people is admirable while at the same time wanting to slap her for her utter ignorance of how the world is. And then, when we think she may have wisened up and we’re going to see her take a more manipulative stance, she really doesn’t have the backbone for it.
Even in the final episode, when she is faced with her end, she struggles to see what she has done wrong because she thought she was still fighting for the better of her people. That is what she wanted in her final breath, for them to remember her for what she tried to accomplish, not for what she had accomplished.
Watching Merwyn go the way she did is such a heartbreaking and yet deserving end to her story. For what she aided in, she does not deserve to be remembered as more than what she was in the final scene but at the same time, you admire her child like heart and ambition for wanting to better things for her people- even if she went about it in the worst possible way.
