Previous artist: Yuuka Matsumoto
For Today's episode of "Old School FE Artist Spotlight" we have; Shinshu Ueda!
Shinshu Ueda is a mangaka that has been active since the late 80s. She has made manga for many different demographics throughout her career. She's drawn an official FE manga called Fire Emblem Wind Mage released on April 27th, 1998. The manga covers the backstories for Merric and Minerva. Many years later, she would return as an artist for the One Hundred Songs of Heroes karuta set, where she illustrated cards for Julius and Ares.
Early in her career, she made many doujinshi for Yoroiden Samurai Troopers (Ronin Warriors in English). She also created doujinshi for Dragon Ball, Gundam Wing, and many more.
Here is a list of her artist credits for the FE series:
Fire Emblem Wind Mage
Fire Emblem Enix Super Comic Gekijoh Vol.7
Fire Emblem: One Hundred Songs of Heroes (Artist)
She's also made 2 FE doujinshi:
BACK ATTACK 1.5 (Date unknown) [General]
BACK ATTACK (1994) [Marth & Merric]
Her recent work as of writing this post is Saint Seiya: Another Story of Hades - "Dark Wing" (2020) which is available to purchase in English.
I hope you enjoyed this post on one of FE's many contributing artists!

Playing through Fire Emblem Warriors again because I love repetition. Anyway maybe I’m just biased toward my beloved wind mages but WHY was Merric not in that game. Seriously. We got TWELVE Fates characters and only SIX Shadow Dragon characters?? And that’s w/DLC—otherwise it’s nine vs. three. Obviously I love the non-DLC three, but it would be like if they only added Chrom, Lucina, and Robin from Awakening. I would have added Merric for sure (biased). Maybe Ogma. Jagen would be rad as hell. Would say Cain and/or Abel and one of the Whitewings but honestly how do you choose
I guess I came away from Shadow Dragon with a very different perception of the main-ish characters. I think Navarre is a cool character but imo he has a bigger role in the OVA than in the actual game. And Linde is great too but I think she comes in pretty late game—but again I’m biased toward wind mages and Merric is my personal favorite… so maybe I just didn’t pay attention enough to the other mages?
Minerva is a good choice though. 100% pleased they added her. No notes on that choice
Side note: I also find it very funny that Cordelia was added instead of Sumia. She was pushed as a main character in Awakening and since then it’s like she doesn’t exist. I love both of them so I’m not complaining, I just think it’s funny
hi its merric again
