A few weeks ago our course went on a trip to London land Thanks to our tutor! We went to see Merlin Evans who gave us a talk on how she made it in such a hard industry. She was absolutely lovely! And on top of that, Her talk was really inspirational and also informing.
Here’s Merlins page (She has an amazing name) http://merlinevans.com
The trip to London amazed me at how it really thrives artistically, It is definitely a desired location to make a name for myself, although illustration is fortunate in the sense that you can be at the other end of the world and still produce work for another country. All of the art work and even architecture is just inspiring!
In Merlins talk she really gave a confidence boost in that, even when you’re not rolling in money and struggling to pay bills or eat- There’s always a way if you’re utterly determined and focused on what you want in life. She also talked about how she’s finally managed to study for her dream job, Medical Illustration. It’s astonishing, the curse itself I believe is 6 years long, learning the skills that even training surgeons have to cover. I also believe that she is the only woman on the course too, which I find quite astonishing to an extent.
I had a lovely time in London, it really inspired me to try hard and push for what I want to achieve in life. A small part even made me slightly anxious of what I will actually do with my life, but there’s only one way to find out.
