Y’all, today I did so much and accomplished so much and things are all coming together and omg.
So I’m in Denver looking for a place to live, right, so the first and only place I actually viewed is the place that I submitted my rental application to. And guess what. It is in CAPITOL HILL.
CAPITOL HILL. That is the place I’ve been dreaming of living for like the past 6 years of my life. Capitol Hill is like my end destination. I found this gorgeous spacious studio that has TONS of natural light and I’m so pumped. But that’s not all, I also went to the brand new store that I’m going to be working at. I’ve grown up in store #44, it’s been there for 26 years. It’s kind of junky to be honest. The store I was hired at is store #411 and has been there for 2 years. Only someone who has worked at 44 would understand the excitement of going into a brand new top of the line store. Especially when everything you know, was taught to you in an old junky store. However,
this store is a fucking WRECK. Like from a merchandising standpoint, it is really really really bad. It has the flow of a mismanaged dollar general. It’s not good. BUT thankfully, I’m good at what I do. I have worked for, and been given, the opportunity to fix it. I can’t tell you how excited I am to rip apart that store and completely rebuild it. It is going to be so much fun like seriously I cannot wait. I met with my new boss today in person for the first time (he hired me over the phone) and he’s great. I think he’s just going to stay out of my way and let me do my thing. Which is exactly what I need in a boss.
I’m so grateful right now.
Hard work is paying off finally. This little bitch right here dropped out of art school because he was addicted to opiates. He’s been working retail for about 4 years, and has developed a passion for it. He has been able to use work experience and acquired knowledge, to develop a fine eye for merchandising and store layout/flow/operations. THAT is my art. That is how I’ve been able to use my eye for design. That is how I’m able to contribute to the world visually. By being a merchant and creating beautiful stores.
I may not be painting paintings and having art exhibitions, but who tf does........? I’ve learned how to use my artistic abilities in a profitable way. Which is what all artists are really trying to do anyway. I love my job. Idgaf if people write retail off as a poverish trade. That’s fine. I love it and I’m good at it. And the possibilities are truly endless.
