where does love go in death? when we experienced a near-death situation, memories would go mad and complex, you would see different memories juggling in front of you and retelling the emotions and visions you were seeing. you would remember the guilt that was never sorry-ed, you would remember yourself and how much you ate yesterday. you would remember the happiest moment you had had. but suddenly, you would forget everything.
Koreeda's Afterlife reminds us memory in death, a prosthetic post-memory, like a scene in front of us, cherishing it with the feeling of nostalgia (never remembered; never forgotten).
we might not be dead now, but we are unsure about the memories. Collective memory will remain and must remain as part of the history, even though individuals are being hidden behind it (but always will be part of it) our memories that we kept for ourselves are still part of who we are and what we are.
If we have to keep one memory before we cross to another life. I will keep a memory with people around me. When I felt guiltless and loneliness.
