#memory flash

Ok so how i died… It wasn’t anything terrible, no getting mauled beyond recognition or bleeding out. Heck, I didn’t even dust.

Me, Error, and there were one or two other people I don’t remember, who tho, were going through an abandoned AU since it was going to collapse anyways and the supplies and stuff would’ve gone to waste, so we were getting it together to give to Horrottale or something. Error didn’t think it would collapse for a while, he thought we had time… he was wrong.

we had been in that AU for thirty minutes when it happened. The ground shook, and Error and me turned to each other with terrified looks on our faces. Things began to crumble, everything started collapsing. We rushed to find the others. Thankfully, they had already gathered where we agreed to if shit hit the fan, and had a portal opened and were waiting for us. I don’t know what I was thinking, apparently logic didn’t live in my mind that day. But I turned back for some dumb reason I can’t remember. Error screamed for me to come back, the AU was going down. And anything inside when it completely disappeared would get deleted too. I managed to get whatever I’d turned back for, and ran back to the portal. Error had his arm outstretched for me to grab so he could pull me through to safety (we’d been working on his Haphephobia together), but at that moment a piece of the AU landed in front of me just as I was about to grab him, and I had to jump back. Error tried to jump back into the collapsing AU to get to me, but the others grabbed him and pulled him back. My scarf flew off my neck and went through the portal just as it closed. The last thing I remember after that was the AUs binary code on my bones burning, and Error screaming my name, and then I was gone.

Yay! That was one heck of a memory flash when I had it! Very unfortunate ;-; idk what I was grabbing, that part was really fuzzy, but I just know I was dumb TvT

"Ugh, you're gonna make me remember things? Fine."

Why is it... that this girl who had meant so much to the others seems so unfamiliar to him? He looks at her face, and yes, sees a victim, but doesn’t see... doesn’t feel the familiarity.

But there is something about her, something rings a bell.

A voice rings through his head.

“Yuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii... are you listening?”

This irritating person is back. Why she choose to interrupt his studies, to barge into his class is beyond him. He wipes at his nose, an annoyed look appearing on his face. He stares into wide green eyes and a big grin.

“That isn’t my name. Go back to your own class, Takajo-shi!”

“Don’t wanna! Come on, take me around the festival. Morikawa-chi’s here too~”

He swats at her as if she’s a bug.

“Then go and waste his time. I’m studying.”

“Don’t be boring! Hang with me~”

Hiro walks in and casually leans on Yuichi’s shoulder. What is it with these two and their lack of personal space?! With their lack of manner? Can’t they do this in their own class?

“You have no friends, right.”

“Don’t just say that!”

“Ahahaha! You should just be our friends, Yui!”

“That’s not my name!”

She’s not listening!

“There’s me, Hiro-chi, Niki, OF COURSE, you’ve met her! Err, oh, that’s Feli-chi! Annnd Shima and Komori-- Yasu-tachi! Oh, oh and Renri-chi! You would like Renri-chi! Do you know her? She’s the--”

“Super High School Level Neurologist. Renri Kogasaka. I’m familiar.”

The blonde... Nijino, blinks.

“Ehhh? You’ve met? And you didn’t tell me?”

He glares. What’s the best way of putting this... before he can even speak up, Hiro gives him a sly smile and takes his words.

“A guy like this probably memorized the registers. Right? Bet you know everyone in school.“

... Damn it! He’s perceptive!

“Wowwww! That’s amazing! Hey, hey, hey, hang with us! You can meet Renri-chi yourself!”

Something flashes in your mind...

Hee, hee, hee! Ho, ho, ho!

The familiar cheerful laughter rings back in Izo’s ears. Yeah... this was how it used to be. How it was - how it should be, in fact. Izo enjoys the feeling of being up high, he enjoys the fruition of his prank, coming together. The balloons pop and splatter everywhere, some students pelted in the face with drips and spatters of paint. Ah, yes! It didn’t matter if it was Hope’s Peak or any old school, it never got old playing a joke.

“Yeek!”

The sound comes from a classmate. Oh dear, oh dear. Izo chuckles once more. Now he’s in for it. If he’s hit Renri with one of those he’ll never hear the end of it. That girl and her punctuality! It’s one of her sadder qualities.

“Omori-kun! Again?!”

“Hee, hee, hee! Oh please~ just a harmless joke!”

“You--! You’re eally getting it this time.”

How was a neurologist this fast, he wondered, as he sprung off the wall in preparation. Renri was definitely hot on his tail and she was definitely going to give him a piece of her mind...

That is... if she could catch him!

Something flashes in your mind…

“It’s not like I hate it... it’s just... makes me remember some nasty stuff.”

Sachi’s voice sounds a lot more confident than the one she uses. There’s no signs of stuttering or any sort of worry on her face. It’s like... a whole other her. Renri and Sachi bask in the sun. It’s nice to rest like this... the warm breeze is unlike the hospital. It feels... clean... alive. Real. Warm. And it feels nice to have someone sit by her side.

“I think it’s great. Starring in a play, huh... that’s really something, Sachi-chan...”

Sachi shrugs, making a dismissive gesture.

“It’s not really my sort of thing. Having all that attention is just... I dunno.”

“You don’t like it?”

Renri nudges her a bit.

“The idea of everyone throwing all this... attention and adoration at you... it’s a bit much. I can’t really put it into words.”

Sachi wants to tell her, honestly. That desire is in her it’s just... it’s a big thing to tell someone and it’s so personal. A friend, a classmate, for sure, but... she’s not quite she’s ready to say all that. Would Renri think less of her for that? It’s just that it’s... a bit hard to explain.

“It’s fine.”

Huh? Sachi... hadn’t said anything yet. Renri turns to look at her.

“Really, it’s fine. It’s too early for you to tell me your entire life story, I mean. It’s only what, been a few months? Relax!” she laughs. “You can take your time getting to know me. And I’ll take my time getting to know you. And if you feel like... you want to tell me in time... well then, you can. And if not, that’s alright too.

It’s not like I’m going anywhere, Sachi-chan.”

Something flashes in your mind…

It’s only a brief meeting, a brief passing but it returns to her like a precious item to their owner. A fated encounter, a string that ties the two. Maybe that’s true of Atsuko and Renri. After all, weren't they friends?

An exuberant conversation. Atsuko’s having fun just talking her heart out. Hope’s Peak isn’t like her other schools... people are more... colourful. And strange, perhaps. It’s easier to make friends with people. Renri Kogasaka has always made sure she doesn’t get herself into too much trouble. Even if that trouble is just a gash on her knee.

“Ehehe... sorry...”

Renri tuts, before putting a colourful band-aid on the spot. Atsuko’s eyes widen. It’s cute!

“You need to be more careful, Tengan-chan...”

“It’s alright~ I know medicine, I can take care of myself.”

Renri frowns.

“But... I’d worry. There’s no reason you can’t just slow down a little sometimes. You’d probably have more fun that way, too.”

The concern is... it’s a warm feeling. Enveloping. It’s a nice thought, to have someone think of you, to care about you. She smiles, feeling a sense of deep friendship...

Something flashes in your mind...

Her eyes weren’t always like that. You remember that. You remember her. It was hard to see before, in the darkness but how could you have forgotten? She was once here, she was your friend. Your classmate.

“Ri-nee, Ri-nee, come on! I don’t want them to run out of the takoyaki!”

She laughs, as Yasu pulls on her hand. Faster, faster. Their little heart beats like a rabbit’s foot thumps on the ground. Hope’s Peak is decked out with colous and decorations, with stands from every class. Each SHSL student having their own ideas for something great for the festival. Yasu wants to hurry up and see everything else! But they’d get such an earful if they went off on their own. Of course Renri was the natural follow-along!

“Alright, alright!” She laughs.

“There’s a haunted house too! We’ve GOT to see it! It’d kill me not to!”

“Komori-chan, please... give me a sec...!”

Something flashes in your mind…

The gentle twitching of fingers and the feeling of control, a sensation that returns to Izo as he stares at the cat. That... familiar cat. He must’ve performed with it before. With his fingers, it’s so easy to control, so easy. There’s joy that comes in the small movements and in the delight of those watching. They gasp and they smile, laugh at all the right moments.

Here, his face doesn’t matter. He can entertain as well as anyone without being judged on the physical aspects of it all. Here, he is at peace, in a zone, in a place he can understand.

And it feels good. He feels good.
