Hell9 :) What do you think about 'Reunited Worlds' so far? I love it, I think it's really good! But I high-key don't want a loveline between a 18 years old and woman that is 12 years older now :/ How do you think they'll resolve this?
I love it! I love it, but I high-key donât love what theyâre doing with the romance either. I have so many thoughts, so the following might not make much sense haha.
Spoilers ahead for Reunited Worlds
Now, the thing is that the makers havenât made up their minds about what their main focus/genre should be. Should it be Hae Sung and Jung Wonâs love story, or Hae Sungâs seeking justice and trying to clear his name, while figuring out his new identity (dealing with superpowers and all), and his family and friends spending time with him? I want it to be the latter, and so far, this is how the story is going. Sure, Hae Sung and Jung Won have their confusing (couple-like?) moments, but once he leaves the house, he is trying to make sense of 2017. But first, what Iâm enjoying about the show:
My God, do I love Hae Sungâs siblings (not you, Young Joon) and friends! Theyâre the reason Iâm watching this (as well the mystery around Hae Sungâs bullyâs death). Kang Chul is so precious, and I canât wait for him to really bond with Hae Sung again. Iâm also in love with his single daddy arc, and heâs a teen at that! Itâs just so refreshing and /new/ to watch. Jin Joo and Ho Bang are hilarious, and the Modern Farmer trio (Jin Joo, Shi Eon and Dong Yeon) reuniting is what I live for! I also think the second male lead is wonderful. There is definitely something more to his identity, but I donât think heâs aware of it himself. And Hae Sungâs sister, I really need a proper introduction to grown up Young In, because I adored her younger self. This drama is actually hilarious, and although there are sad moments, the comedy is right up my alley and overpowers the melodrama.
Hae Sung is 19 years old. He is still a high school student. If the romance progresses, Jung Won needs to draw the line. I know theyâre both confused - Jung Won has remembered Hae Sung for over 10 years, but..itâs just..not..it doesnât look right? Episode 7-8 gave Jung Won some uncomfortable situations, to establish the age gap between the two leads. I guess itâs easier when the male is younger, as I donât see the same uncomfortable scenes directed at male characters when their partners are much younger. Those scenes made both Jung Won and Hae Sung sad and frustrated, but itâs quite literally is the reality - Hae Sung is 19, Jung Won is 31. I feel like that reality will hit them one day, and although Iâm not sure who will confront who, as of right now, Jung Won is the dominant person in their relationship (theyâre not dating, by the way), and by default, the person I expect more of.
The differences between Hae Sung and Jung Won arenât purely physical and age-related. I feel like there are lots of scenes where we see the difference in maturity, and understanding of reality between the two:
Hae Sung reacting to Jung Wonâs lingerie. Which, I mean, it could also be an adult, but itâs obvious HS is a teen, judging from his reaction.
Hae Sung asking why Jung Won lead this kind of life. In this scene, Jung Wonâs reaction is super important. Her facial expression changes, and it looks like sheâs wondering, âWhat do you even know?â Hae Sung is still 19, Jung Won is 31. Years have gone by, and Hae Sung hasnât been by Jung Wonâs side to see the changes in her life.
Hae Sung asking Jung Won to stop calling herself ânoonaâ. Hae Sung is still a hyung to his siblings, and they accept his presence, but he canât force this upon Jung Won. Yes, they were close, but at times he seems pushy. He is not comfortable, nor familiar, in his body anymore, but at some point heâll have to come to terms with it.
Ideally, Iâd want Hae Sung to go back. It sounds horrible, but I actually think it could work. I have a feeling theyâre going to continue pushing the second lead as Jung Wonâs romantic interest. Itâs the pairing that acts the most natural around each other, and although Jung Won is opposed to the idea, maybe sheâll open up? Why does romance have to ruin good dramas. I want Hae Sungâs main goal in 2017 to be finding his family and the real culprit. Hae Sung didnât time-travel, he was brought back to life. So, I feel like him saying goodbye, but this time properly, will be inevitable.
