for melody, willow, and olive: 11, 13, 19, and 21?
Why thank you for the love for my girls! These are from this ask meme. this got long so putting it under a readmore.
11. Who picked out your character’s name? Do you know why they chose it?
Melody's name was picked for her by an old friend when she didn't have anything to call herself at all. @00blackbirdwrites00 's Dan picked it out for her when she was about 12 shortly after they met and became friends. It was picked out for her habit to self soothe with humming, particularly because she does so in her sleep. In a funny coincidence, what he picked out isn't that far off her given name: Melanie. That was chosen by her mother, Sophia, but Mel doesn't see it as her own despite how incredibly similar it is. She can get really pissed about it, though it doesn't come up much if at all after she expressed that.
If I end up posting AU stuff here, it'll become clear that her name is usually a very circumstantial thing. Actually, there's already a taste of that over on my other sideblog, @projectscylla. Deri, Willow's dad, was the one who suggested the name. It's actually legally down as Willomina but the intent to informally refer to her as Willow was always there. Willow likes her name, she thinks it suits her well.
Olive is a nickname that stuck, mostly because she has struggled with her verbal communication and shortening her actual name, Olivia, removed a small barrier for her early on. Her parents Sophia and Blake narrowed down a list of names together and this was a consistent favourite between them so they kind of picked it together. Blake might have been the one to add it to the list, but he doesn't see that as super important. Olive is happy with her name.
13. How does your character look at the end of the day’s tasks compared to at the beginning?
It does not matter what Melody has been doing, her hair is a tangled mess and she's got smudges and stains on her clothes. She just does not care enough about appearances most of the time to try and avoid the consequences of her hair being the beast it is. There are days she tries to keep it together, she's slowly been exploring how she presents herself and embracing femininity but its taking time. Ultimately, Mel is a rough and tumble mess.
Willow is usually either muddy or covered in splatterings of motor oil and grease. She loves to get her hands dirty and do things herself. When she's been with her dad she learned to fix cars and motorbikes with Morgan and thats something she's kept at. She's got her own little project of fixing up an old motorbike. This though is just her side hobby. Willow works in a garden centre and adores looking after her own garden growing flowers, shrubbery, herbs, and berries.
Olive is the neat sibling. She likes to be tidy and clean thank you and finds tasks that could get her messy particularly challenging for her sensory issues. Because of this, there isn't much difference in appearance between Olive freshly ready for her day and at the end of it. A cute outfit with her ginger hair cascading down.
19. Would your character let a vampire bite them? Under what conditions?
Melody is usually the one doing the biting.... But I don't think she'd be opposed. She's pro vampire bites and really just pro biting.
Willow is a little more contextual but for the most part its a yes. She'd let a vampiric friend have a drink if they needed it. Definitely open to more intimate bites if she happens to be dating a vampire.
Olive has more hesitation, but its less to do with it being a vampire bite and more that she's pretty touch sensitive and needs lots of warning and time to prepare.
21. Somebody asks your character their pronouns. How do they answer? Not just their pronouns–what do they say? How do they feel about being asked?
Melody: "I don't fucking know. Do whatever I don't give a shit." Mel is used to default being called she/her, so she's most likely to recognise that as being about herself, but really doesn't care. They can be pretty apathetic about gender as a concept.
Willow: "Oh, it's she/her. I don't mind too much but I guess that's what I prefer... I guess I'm just cisgender? I don't know if I can say for sure but I'm happy being feminine." Willow has some curiosity around exploring gender more fluidly, but she's pretty happy as she is. Olive: "She or They is good. I use She mostly. It's what I'm used to but I don't like... really get what would make me 100% a 'woman'. Gender is weird." Olive explains her views pretty well. She'd probably, like Willow, call herself cis but she doesn't feel attached enough to the concept of gender to make that call.
