I posted an excerpt of the introduction here last night but I haven't finished it yet. I will during this lunch break. I haven't finished a book in months, yet I keep on amassing and hoarding more and more. I've broken my book buying ban weeks ago but I really want to try to stop. At least through the summer tho I'm planning to go to some readings and have to pick up a book I won't at a bookstore so the temptation will be strong ugh. In any case, I want to vary up my reading by switching genres like art (currently reading Sophie Calle's double game) to this feminist theory to poetry to novel to short story to SCIENCE to much more. By the end of this month, I want to finish at least three books and hopefully will be able to give away or sell some. My room is overflowing with times and at this rate I'm going to die being crushed by them, as my college roommate Lisset told me. And a few others lol. I'm only #page2 of the #introduction of pinay power: peminist critical theory, theorizing the Filipina/American experience edited by Melinda l. De Jesus but I'm internally glee screaming at this #excerpt by the editor! I relate so hard to the bottom half about the perpetual present and erasure of history and distance from Filipino culture. I knew I'll find commonality with these writings but I didn't think I would so soon. It gave voice to what I've been experiencing without me realizing I was. It's already giving me high definition and I have yet to reach the third page like WHAT?!? I found out about this book through @bjanepr's online pinay workshop. She excerpted a beautiful prose piece by m. Eveline galang called "deflowering the sampaguita" and it stayed with me years later. I wish I bought this book earlier but I'm happy I have it now. This book is going to give me so much. I'm eager to see how it'll affect my outlook of my present, past, and future. Scared too. But the best things make you feel that way: anxious, terrified, thrilled. Like kissing someone for the first time, going to your dream job interview, meeting your favorite author, performing at an open mic. And I want to make that last one my reality.
