A Melantho and Telemachus duo would've been more interesting than whatever Penelope/Melantho is. Like canonically Telemachus doesn't care about her and vice-versa but what if they did. What if Telemachus saw his kinda-older sister figure being misled by the men who kept bullying him his whole life and didn't take no for an answer, took her with him to visit Nestor and Menelaus and got Melantho away from kinda bad influences, Melantho sharing the disappointment of their House being in ruin and Penelope for abandoning her, Telemachus understanding her pain and sharing his own, despite the awkwardness about not realizing how hard a slave's life truly was and pushing past that to try to understand her better. What if that also causes tension within him and Odysseus after he returns, because his sister is important too. What if.

#obviously the themes of the odyssey arent compatible with this version of events. but then again so is almost every retelling #what if melantho does everything to save her fellow slaves and telemachus backs her up likeeee #again super idealistic and maybe even naive im aware but. at least to me thats more interesting than power imbalance wlw #telemachus #melantho #the odyssey #this is just an honest semi serious take if yall have critiques feel free but be nice lol
