How Old is the Osireion at Abydos❓🤔 The Osireion is shrouded in mystery. Egyptologists believe that it was built by Seti I or by his grandson Merenptah, who was responsible for some of the carvings. But stylistically speaking the structure is unlike anything other built during the New Kingdom. The Valley Temple of Khafre at Giza is the only other temple in all of Egypt that draws a close comparison, But that was thought to be built in the Old kingdom. It dates back to the 4th Dynasty pyramid builders, though evidence points to the Osirion being much older than Egyptologists claim. This elm leaf is 6000 years old, and can be seen at the astonishing World of Stonehenge exhibition at the @britishmuseum. It is one of many incredible objects that help explain the context of why our early farming ancestors were inspired to build & reshape monuments and ritual sites such as the famous Henge over thousands of years, as part of a collective sun worship. We’ve set ourselves a new family #outdoors challenge to visit as many prehistoric sites as we can in 2021 - guided by the awesome Old Stones book from @megalithic_portal ! Today we popped by the marvellous Devils Quoits near Oxford, a reconstruction of the original stone circle built around 4,900 years ago for probably ceremonial purposes. It is surprising to learn that the Neolithic colonisation of Britian and Ireland did not follow the familiar course which is usually repeated throughout history when advanced sedentary agricultural cultures encroach on the lands of indigenous hunter gatherers. Although most were replaced, they also intermixed. But it wasn't the farmer men who took native wives, it was the other way around! All of the paternal lineages of Neolithic Britain and Ireland came not from the Neolithic race themselves but from the smaller minority of native WHG men!
