I'm thinking there's some kind of foil relationship between chanticleer and hyacinth like. their combined role in planet desperation gotta mean something. assuming I've got the lore right at least. here's what I'm thinking: this is gonna be a long one. It's based on the idea that Parnassus and the Clown College are, themselves, foils. I think a rivalry between a clown college and a "liberal arts university" is meant to be purposely contrasting the study vs practical pursuit of art and critiquing both throughout the album. chanticleer faked his death and took refuge in parnassus from the clown college in the parnassus(I think, given he was there when the raid happened) library and then hyacinth died due to his association with parnassus during the raid by the clown college students. during chanticleer's stint, he went from actively partaking in making music and art by narrating the play etc to just chilling and basking in academia (the library). He dropped the pretences. I think chanticleer himself was becoming discontent and burnt out with how performative the clown college was (especially given they were about to launch a raid of Parnassus). That's why he faked his death in such a dramatic and over the top manner. during hyacinth's death he realised he'd never taken the time out of his life to actually proceed with his artistic goals or passions and instead was complicit in the degrading of it to the hyper-intellectual approach he carried with the university. this is what "The accuser" criticises him for, I think, but I also think the accuser is his own guilt manifesting. I believe the guilt itself is about how he's engaging and feeding the cycle of shallow art "analysis" and degrading his student's own innate artistic abilities and replacing them with the academic, univeristy-approved version. hyacinth at least thought chanticleer was pure enough to enter heaven. Maybe he resented the fact that Chanticleer was a man of action and died while experiencing life and the creation of art without being tethered to an establishment meanwhile hyacinth died with lingering guilt and regret over not having "lived life" to it's fullest. Despite this, chanticleer himself resided himself to working in the Parnassus library, showing that he himself was also discontent with the way he chose to express his innate love of art.
