helloo, you gave me some recommendations recently cause I was in a bit of a reading slump, anyways I ended up reading Heap Earth Upon It by Chloe Michelle Howarth and what a stunninggg book it was I loved it so much you really hit the nail on the head the characters were so rounded and interesting and like I love characters that are just wretched and miserable and you can see exactly how they became what they were and your heart pangs for each of them even as they are the root of each others misery goddd. And I loved how claustrophobic Howarth makes gender roles feel, the whole air of it felt so tight and restrictive like it was barely holding itself together but it would never let go, like even to the very end like it made me think of how in like Greek tragedies I’ve read you’re sort of left to bask in the wreckage, but we don’t get that sort of catharsis here and I kind of love that, it feels tightly spooled to the very end, all of the characters live still teetering on the edge of collapse, another secret to be unearthed another spiral of grief that they might fall down. Anyways Id love to hear your thoughts on the book and tysm for the reccs will be having a look through the rest of tha list 💕🫶
ahhh hi im so so glad you liked it!!! howarth is a fab writer she really knows how to do suffocation i love your analysis. all of them are really in their own personal hells and theyre such unique but interconnected situations and their survival instincts are each so different all of them fall short its just like watching these people crack slowly in like 200 pages. my personal feeling was that i wanted a littleee more payoff at the end but thats only because i was so invested it was such a pageturner that i was really racing towards the conclusion. but yah shes an author i really enjoy im definitely following her work now!! im so glad the rec came good for you yayyy!!
