And that’s not true. That’s not true at all. Outsmarting the Devil is it’s own genre of fairytale. I can’t believe y’all think it’s American that makes me feel itchy

There’s so manyof these that there’s an even more neiche trope where someone gets the help of the Devil’s grandma to trick him

Sure there’s stories where people loose to the devil the song is based off of either a stained glass window or a painting of a guy in a chess match against the devil and he’s loosing pretty bad.

I will say that Johnny’s win in the story is unique in that there’s nothing much to be said about him winning or how he ended up in his situation, whereas I think in one like bearskin you can see that the protagonist was driven to making a deal with the devil out of desperation but that could be like more of a story length issue idk I don’t know music well
