It was perfectly timed, as the emergency lights flooded the room in a deep red, and the door hissed open. Jesse grabbed his metal leg in his mouth before peering around the open door, down the hallway. Seeing it fairly devoid of agents, he hobbled in the direction to his... owner’s office. 

It was a bit odd, calling someone his owner, but with the collar around his neck, and the facade that he was just some poor mutt who got his leg fucked over... what else was he supposed to do? It wasn’t that bad, pretending to be someone’s pet. He got to shift during Gabriel’s working hours, was well fed, had access to a warm bed and a hot shower. He didn’t have to do anything but look cute, and roll over. 

As he made his way he was stopped by some Blackwatch agents calling him over. “Jesse! What are you doing all alone, come here boy~” sang Agent Young. She was a sweet woman, once he got over the initial shock of someone who murdered three of his friends right next to him being so kind to him. He came to her call, dropping his leg to pant happily at her. She giggled and ruffled his fur, picking up his leg. 

“Let me help you with this, you gotta stop taking it off puppy!” she chastised him as if he were a child, Jesse snorted, disregarding her. He would love to be able to put it back on himself, but unfortunately he was neither flexible, nor did he have thumbs in this form. Once Young had the leg secured again, he quickly trotted away, ignoring the agents’ hollers to come back.

When he reached his destination, he let out the quietest bark he could as he pawed at the door. Moments later it slid open to a concerned Blackwatch Commander. Jesse yipped at Gabriel, wagging his tail. Immediately the commander’s hardened expression melted into a smile as he knelt down to scrub his hands through the fur of the coyote’s neck.

“What are you doing here Jesse? Did the storm scare you?” he asked before picking up the canine with hardly any exertion. Jesse wouldn’t admit, but he loved getting held too, especially by Gabe. The coyote huffed and began licking Gabe’s face, causing the other to burst into disgusted laughter. “Aw, is bebé afraid of thunder. Oh you poor thing. At least your leg didn’t fall off this time.” he played with the metal paw as he walked back into his waiting room to plop down on one of the couches with Jesse. 

“Storm’s not too bad, but it shut down most of our connection.” the commander muttered to mostly himself, but he tended to do that a lot more often around Jesse. He appreciated it honestly, even if he couldn’t converse like he usually would, he found ways to make himself understood. Gabriel just held the big dog, stroking his soft fur. Jesse settled on the man’s chest with a sigh, earning some scritches behind his ears.

The commander closed his eyes to rest with his beloved pet, his petting slow as he drifted slightly. Jesse relaxed as well, the thunder outside the windows fading into simple background noise as he focused on the sound of Gabe’s breathing. Jesse... or Joel, that was his real name, had fallen hard for the handsome agent who found him hiding in Blackwatch’s dropship. He had hoped to just slip away and tend to his wounds after the sting wrecked his arm, but Gabriel had taken him in to Overwatch’s medical ward.

He had his arm amputated, and replaced with a cybernetic replacement. It wrecked him for months, he felt trapped, anxious that they would find out what he was before he was healed and ready to run away. But during his stay with Gabriel, he had learned more about the man, what he and his agents did for a living... how Gabe seemed to only show Jesse who he truly was. He was a kind and loving man, gentle and honestly after hearing everything this man had done? A hero. The only anxiety Jesse held now, was that if he was found out, they would make him leave, send him to jail... or worse... to a lab.
