So I went down farther in the magnificent century rabbit hole, and found the earliest teaser for magnificent century: kösem, from what I have read somewhere is that this teaser was aired a few days after the final episode of magnificent century, or, right after the final episode was aired. The series was originally meant to air in September of 2015, but got delayed to november of the same year.
the actress in the teaser is güneş nezihe şensoy (who is between 13-15 y/o in the video), the original pick for kösem in the series, back when the series was meant to start with kösem already crowned a Haseki Sultan, and Meryem Uzerli was meant to portray an adult kösem, for she would come back to türkiye for the first time since she left the magnificent century series in episode 100 (it was confirmed I guess, for güneş kept posting the articles about that in her Twitter).
But the teaser got backlash, for the actress here is too young to portray a sultana, in a series where she has to act in the birth and sex scenes, so the plans changed, the writers decided to start the series from when kösem was kidnapped, and chose Anastasia tsilimpiou as the new young kösem

Another example of Kosem being a narcissistic manipulator: her treatment of Bayezid. She pretends to treat him exactly like her own son, but she actually doesn't.
She is suspicious of him in a way she isn't of her bio children. Bayezid had literally done nothing at this point to deserve her distrust
He makes one mistake and she disowns him. Notice how she didn't do that when say Mehmet gave away Osman's location to Halime even though the outcome was the same
And yet she still expects him to consider her as his mother (also this is when his actual mother was about to get executed, why is talking about herself at all?) Some people argue that she is comforting him but telling him, “Didn’t I become your mother too?” at a moment when he is grieving the imminent execution of his true mother minimizes his loss rather than acknowledging it. Genuine comfort does not attempt to minimize a deep emotional bond, especially in such a traumatic moment. Even when she offers comfort, she can't help centering her role, turning his mourning into a validation of her past actions and self-image.
People always call Atike selfish and I won't deny that she very much is, but it's a bit annoying to me how no one ever calls out Gevrehan for pursuing a relationship with Silahtar despite knowing very well how much Atike was in love with him, that's a pretty shitty thing to do to your little sister.
Something that made me less understanding of her as well, including her dramatic suicide scene at Atike's wedding, is that at some point the show starts trying to tell us that she was like Fahriye, miserable all her life because forced to marry men she didn't love and I was like am I supposed to just forget the fact that she was shown at the beginning to be very clearly happy and in love with Topal ? Yes learning that he was a traitor and a cheater broke her heart and can make her re-evaluate their time together, but it doesn't magically erases the years where she was happy with him so for me, it just falls a bit flat and I felt like I was being gaslighting into believing something that was not true

What was your thoughts on Sultan Mustafa I? Personally speaking I loved Boran Kuzum’s portrayal and mostly it was because I loved Mustafa as a historical figure when his life was truthfully speaking flaming garbage (not saying it was boring just went from bad to worse for him 💔)
I felt so bad for him, his life was absolutely destroyed and stolen from him and I honestly think at times killing him quickly would have been better than the hell they put him through. All the actors for him were absolutely fantastic
And though I understand why they did and I don't mind it per se, I do think the way they represented the kafes system in s2, where every prince was just walking around freely while Mustafa was locked up in his room made his story even sadder and the way his own family treated him even more cruel
He deserved better
the pacing of mc:k is so weird to me. like why spend 30 episodes on kosem's time as a concubine and 27 episodes on murad's reign when irl kosem was the most influental during murad's regency (that was time skipped) and ibrahim's reign (that lasted 3 episodes)???
