The analogy of cars always come into play when I consider what goes into making a DJ product.  For starters, there are the designers who take an idea and make it come to life – but not before the researchers and scientists do their job of making sure it will all play nice together.  To have an idea go from concept to something real in a short matter of time takes a lot of effort and a lot of money in the process.  I think this is why it is better to keep revising a model of a car than to create a new one every month.  It would also make parts for it impossible to interchange if you started with a different basis.
