I love spring. ^^

I could smell bird cherry blossoms (Prunus padus) all day long, their scent is so intoxicating. Bird cherry blooms in spring and produces black berries, called hackberries or hagberries, in autumn. I was always taught the berries (or fruit) are poisonous, and they do contain prulaurasin and amygdalin, which are poisonous to some mammals, but they are eaten in eastern parts of bird cherry’s range, which covers most of central, northern and eastern Europe, the British Isles and the equivalent latitudes in Asia. Some years you can see most of bird cherry trees covered in white silk, which is caused by bird-cherry ermine moth’s caterpillars which can destroy the whole foliage of the tree. However, the trees seem to usually survive and grow their leaves back later in the summer.
