“I don’t care what they say, I’m not taking your money.” She told him, disdain clouding her voice. Maya couldn’t even look him in the eye-not anymore, Farkle was the one person who was never supposed to hurt her. She didn’t think him to be a cheater. But Nat proved her wrong with cold hard proof. 

They didn’t even get their vow renewal. But it was better that way, Maya decided that a long time ago. Why would she want to remember her time with a guy who cheated on her?

“So I pulled a you today...I bought the twins Christmas onesies even though they really don’t need them. But they look so cute...look!” Maya said as she put the twins’ car seats on Farkle’s desk. The twins in matching Christmas onesies. Hunter in green, and Cassie in red. Both had snowmen on them.  “How did your dad and mother take it that we weren’t spending Christmas with them?” 

Jennifer for obvious reasons, with her pending lawsuit against Maya. She had yet to even meet her granddaughters. But Maya was more worried about Stuart. He loved being a grandfather. He was the first one there to hold them after her and Farkle both had held them. He had even brought Katy with him. Jennifer had come too...but she hadn’t been allowed into her room. 

She was pretty sure she was bleeding. But she was too busy running to notice. “Alec!” She screamed, her voice breaking because of the octave it was reaching. “Jace! Jace is evil!” Yup, now she was she was bleeding because she could feel it pooling a little in her mouth. 

“Jace,” Maya’s voice was soft, sad and broken. Like it always seemed to be when she talked to him. She hated that, but she didn’t know how to stop it, “When did you start to feel like you belonged in this family?”

Now please, call them back so we can go our separate ways. I’ll go back to Star and you stay in Jump. Her jaw hurt and she just wanted to sleep. 

“They don’t know me.” She wailed into her sister’s shoulder. Her mundane friends and family didn’t know her. But isn’t that what she wanted? No, she wanted them to be safe. With her around, they weren’t safe. Erasing their memories was the only way. But it still hurt, especially with Simon gone too. “They don’t know me.”

Maya was the youngest to in the Lightwood family and often felt like the odd man out. She didn’t fit in with them. Maybe it was the way she came into the shadowhunter world or how she grew up with a mundane mother. (That was Robert’s and Mayrse’s fault even if they claimed they were ‘protecting her’) But what really made Maya feel out of place, was the death of her older brother. She never met him and yet, the blonde felt as if she were a replacement for him. One that she wasn’t quite sure she was filling the role quite right. 

That’s what she went to talk to Izzy about. But she couldn’t do it while Izzy was upset. So instead, Maya climbed in the bed with her sister and hugged her tight. “I think everyone does.” She whispered, leaning over to stoke her sister’s head like she had done to Riley dozen times before.

“Thanks, Riles and no, I haven’t talked to Farkle yet,” Maya explained. Then she admitted softly, “I’m actually kind of nervous to talk to him.” She shrugged her shoulders. The blonde didn’t know why-it’s not like they hadn’t talked about it before. Maybe it was because she thought they were finally in a place where they could have a baby. “But what about you and Petey huh? You gonna pop any kids out soon?” Maya teased her best friend.
