Edward and anyone else for that matter mistaking Greed for ling really just hurt Ling more than it bothered greed. Greed is everything. He wants everything, he is everything, he doesn't care what pronouns people address him as, or his gender, or what clothes he puts on. He's greed, everything is his and he is everything. (Have I said that already?) But ling is only ling. Calling greedling Ling only hurts the prince because thats not him. 

Greedling doesn't act like ling, he doesn't sound like ling, and he doesn't look like ling (face wise). So continuously getting mistaken for each other (like if ling is angry, he looks like greed, and Ed for example kept calling greed ling before calling them greeling) makes ling wonder is he really himself anymore?  it certainly doesn't feel like that. Not that getting your insides and bones ripped apart and pushed back together would feel very natural.

Even when greed would give ling the gift of taking control of his body, there was always a thought in the back of his head that told him he wasnt really in control. nothing felt natural. He felt like an outsider in his own body, so much so, even seeing his face, even if his face was like it always had been before, it didn't feel right.

Future

Even once Ling becomes emperor and Greed is gone for good, Ling still feels a sort of disconnection with himself. This disconnection is so bad, he spirals, cutting his hair to feel in control of something. But this ruins his ability to see himself and his ability to connect himself to his past. It's only when Lan Fan cuts her own hair does he feel a bit better. (He never cuts his hair again, at least, not more than a little trim)

Ling and May will learn to love each other sO MUCH OKAY they had to grow up too fast let them be silly siblings (they will support each other through everything I just know that okay they make me cry)
