James stared out at the lake and, without any warning and without even looking at Doris, asked, “Do you think there’s any bodies in there?”

“You’re not gonna try lure me into a basement again are you?”

“Do you want to start with floating again?” Dawn asked, wanting to go more slowly this time after the disaster over summer.

“—and then Annamarie sent me a fake book that punched me in the face. So that’s why I have a black eye.”

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Gryffindor quidditch captain. You may have stopped giving me tips once you learned that I was in Slytherin, but I’m not quite as stingy. Good luck today!” 

Frank was minding his own business, moving through his workout so he could get home. He was lying on a bench, taking a break between sets, when someone came and stood over him. “Alright McKinnon?”

“Well, this whole hosting a school event thing isn’t going as terrible as I thought it would go.” 

“Oof! I’m so sorry I didn’t see-” Xeno cut himself off somewhat involuntarily when he looked up to see who he had so haphazardly bumped into. “It’s you.”
