Summertime
I apologize. In all that commotion of air travel and concerts and other diversions, I neglected to properly acknowledge June’s main event: the summer solstice.
On June 21, at 5:14 a.m. EDT the earth took its maximum bow toward the sun, giving us in the Northern Hemisphere the year’s longest dose of daylight.
Pardon me for pointing out the paradox here: From now on, the days get shorter. But don’t be alarmed; daylight will rule for a long, long time.
I took this photo just as I was leaving Hammond Bay Harbor in northern Michigan, bound for the open water of Lake Huron. The dark structure in the foreground is a break wall.
