Max Linder (1883-1925) was a French actor, director, and screenwriter who is best known for his work in silent films. He appeared in over 300 films during his career and was considered a pioneer of physical comedy on screen. Linder's most famous character was "Max," a dapper and elegant gentleman who would find himself in various humorous and often absurd situations. Linder was a major influence on other comedians such as Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd. Despite his success, Linder struggled with depression and financial difficulties later in his career. He tragically died by suicide in 1925.
