hello! just out of curiosity, which skaters throughout history (other than Mr. Yuzuru "Will land back counter-4A" Hanyu) have your fave triple axels?
And just out of curiosity, on my part, I have to ask you this: do you want gif spams? Because that’s how you get gif spams.
In no particular order
Nobunari Oda, who, just the other day, at the tender age of 31, conjured a back counter 3A out of thin air and made me seriously wonder how many goats I need to sacrifice to the skate god(s) so he’d come out of retirement:
Mikhail Kolyada, whose 3A is the proud embodiment of every traditional Russian figure skating jump that came before it: unbelievable height and an axis straight as an arrow:
Joshua Farris’ easy and graceful 3A, not too frequently landed, but whenever he managed it, it’s a joy to behold:
Joshua’s teammate, Max Aaron, whose 3A landing curve is by itself a work of art:
Han Yan’s 3A, powerful, explosive, super height and distance both:
Denis Ten…
(please excuse me while I take some time to tear up)
Among the ladies, my favorite 3A jumper is Mao Asada. Her relentless perseverance in pursuit of this elusive jump is for me one of the most inspirational stories in all of figure skating:
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva’s 3A is a close second favorite:
And a special shout-out to Rika Kihira, whose technique is so efficient she could land 3A combos at will:
P.S. It’s a triple Axel post so I probably should drop in a Yuzu gif, simply because it really doesn’t feel right if I don’t
