Matt promised Jackson that today would be a nice day, that if he behaved himself and did well in school, they would have a special day together. Jackson was excited for Saturday, because it was the promised day, and he could be with his master. Matt promised not to put him on the leash, and after some convincing, the teenager agreed. But only if Jackson did everything he said.
Saturday couldn't come soon enough, and Matt finally let his little kanima out of the house. The creature always stayed by Matt's feet, tail slithering over his shoulders, even carrying their bag of fun when it got too much for his master.
They reached the park where they would spend their day. So filled with eagerness and excittement, Jackson ran across the field then walked back slowly with his head bowed down. Matt crouched in front of his pet and stroked his head. "What's the matter?"
Jackson curled his tail around himself andd lay flat n his belly. Matt looked up to see a herd of terrified children, running from his adorable Kanima. "Don't worry about them Jackson. You're with me today, and I think you're beautiful."
The Kanima certainly perked up at that. He licked Matt's face then walked with his master once more. When they found the perfect place to set up their picnic, Matt pulled out Jackson's favourite stick. His sweet creature ran in small circles as if he didn't know what to do with his happiness, and when Matt threw the stick, Jackson flew across the field to retrieve it. He returned within seconds, and Matt repeated the action. This went on for a good fifteen minutes, until a little Kanima got bored.
Matt laughed. "Already? But we've barely started." He said, bending over to pat his pet who leaned into the gentle touch of his hand. "Alright then. Come on." he said, master leading kanima to the bed of flowers where he flopped with a sigh. Jackson looked at the white plants and hesitated.
Matt leaned forward and at the spot in front of him. "Its okat. Come on." he said. After a little coaxing, Jackson obliged and sat on his behind. When Matt tore out flowers, Jackson attempted to do the same. He managed it well so far, but when his master began to weave the flowers together, he could not imitate the action and began eating the flowers instead. Matt laughed at the silliness of his pet, and finished his masterpiece. Jackson tilted his head when his master showed it to him, placing the flower crown on his head. His master made him a gift! It really was a wonderful day.
They made their way back to their picnic blanket where Jackson lay down. It was nap time for him, and he wasn't even bothered enough to walk back home. Instead, Matt pulled out a book and leaned against Jackson, who curled his tail around him affectionately in return. As a sleep kanima dozed off, Matt read him the story of the furies.
