02.17.17 At the space on Willow Place in Brookyn Heights, S.E.M. ensemble, led by Petr Kotik, presented an evening of new works by emerging composers as well as a special perfomance of and a special performance Christian Wolff’s “No. 3: A Grave”, from 5 Songs, with Wolff on vocals. The evening’s music was slightly marred by sound bleeding through the floor of what sounded like a Doobie Bros cover group rehearsing in the downstairs. The concert featured impressionistic pieces by Assaf Gidron, Tiange Zhou, Jon Myers, Matthew Simon and Elizabeth Adams, an concluded with an incredible piece for string quartet by Chatori Shimizu entitled “Fiddle”.
Those who truly believe in Jesus will become strong in faith during persecution. But the deceivers in the church will fall away and join the persecutors! . . . God allows deceivers to persecute the Church. He allows people to be hardened in their hearts so that they persecute the believers. He does this to refine the faith of the true believers. This is how God “judges” the Church by separating the true believers from the false.
