my mom bought glittery happy birthday candles for my cake tonight but the glitter wasn't edible and my sister shook the candles to see if the glitter would stick to them well enough, but ofc it's glitter so it didn't. so instead of dealing with microplastics, my mom had to pull out the number candles she had stored away but she knew she had the 2 missing, so instead she pulled out a 3 and a 7, crossed them to show that they were multiplied, and then added an eight a couple inches away, because (3x7)+8=29 !

which is true but then my best friend pointed out that it could just be 37-8, which is also 29. and then everyone's minds were blown. either way, definitely the most involved birthday candles i've ever had lol

FAVORITE CLASS AND WHY GO GO GO

UMMMM im going to be brutally attacked for this but tbh math IM SO SORRY 😭 BUT I GENUINELY LOVE MATH when i rate classes in my head i go off three criteria which is course material + teacher + classmates and math has the highest of all three i honestly really like doing math and solving silly problems its so fun and my teacher is so sweet and silly and even though she teaches really fast its normally easy for me to follow along AND I LOVE MY CLASSMATES SO MUCH THEHRE SO SWEET AND IVE MADE SO MANY FRIENDS IN THAT CLASS

The hill I'll die on is that, while the education and schooling system has lots of areas to improve in, it teaching Pythagoras is not one of them. I'm so tired of people going ugh math is useless when am I gonna use this and then in the same breath wish they were taught how to do taxes

Of course you're not gonna use most math you learn in school in your adult life, but this applies for any other subject: you don't need to know which year ww1 started, what's the capital of Mongolia, what an adverb is or how to climb a rope but THIS IS NOT THE POINT

History is there to give context to modern cultures and politics, native language studies are there to help you extract information from text and so on. And math is there to improve your spatial visualization and problem solving skills, so when you have an issue you can break it down to its main logical pillars and sort it out.

And ironically, out of all the things in math, Pythagoras is one of the few formulas actually coming up now and then in real life. I'm renovating an apartment and triangles come up a lot

full of lots of love for math tonight. language of the universe weird ass way to understand it my beloved. i love having pages of calculations and taking super long to figure out problems i love feeling like a mad scientist. it has been there for me since i was nine years old and wanting to know how to do something cool and it keeps promising newer and cooler things. i love you axiomatic and purely logical and data driven ways to understand things i love you math
