A worthy workplace mental health conference today for Mates In Construction. Here are some worthy points from today's discussion: -8 people kill themselves every day, 5 are men. -The #1 killer of men aged between 15-45 is suicide. -3 people in construction kill themselves a week. Our minds are the first thing to change, but that doesn’t necessarily change our emotions, which is where behaviour change happens. RU Okay?
On the 7th of September, Manitou Australia and its dealer NTP Forklifts, sponsored a Fly The Flag Day at a local construction site in NSW in support of suicide prevention in Australia.
According to a MIC Survey, the results suggest suicide amongst Australian construction workers is still higher than in other occupational groups.and should remain a target for suicide intervention and prevention. (2016 report here).
The Fly the Flag event was organized by the MATES In Construction charity proudly supported by the RU Ok? association. Both charities teamed up for suicide prevention and show people that a simple “R U Ok?” can change lives.
