Today is "Make a big hat from EVA"-day! We got that big roll of HD EVA foam to test from @mycostumes.de For the base shape we used a rice cooker pan (apparently our heads would fit perfectly into a rice cooker... okay) and taped it to get a pattern. The rest was a lot experimenting. The foam is super dense, so maybe it's a little harder to cut than other brands (or our knifes were particulary weak...). Sanding it into shape was a breeze, it can be sanded so easily. However, this is the first foam that made me want to use a finer sanding tool than the one I use usually for EVA. But that is not bad at all! As I said, it was super easy to sand and as we covered the foam later anyways, we didn't get to much into detail. Feder used a hotgun to shape her hat and this also worked out extremly well, as you can see. We also tried sewing the foam and that even worked out!!! (Check out the video from earlier!) Speaking in terms of EVA foam, this one is quite heavy. It's thick and strong but that might become a problem later, when we get to wear the hats a whole day. We will see. Those hats are for some upcoming costumes next spring and we are already super excited for them!!!
