Biodegradable pot, a biomaterial take on contemporary ceramics

Compression post dry. Because it was curved through drying process when further compressed it caused a fracture, weakening the material.

Sawing; It cause high amount of dust. fragile to cut when close to th edge, high chance of the material breaking at the end. 

Craving material. It is able to be carved but weakens material and it can only be carved on interior if i carved the exterior frame it would mostly likely crumble or snap.

I soaked the Substrate that is dry and has little mycelium connective tissue. I divided the soaked bags, 2 were soaked and placed bak in substrate area under desk, one was soaked bag changed to air sealed rubbish bag and placed under table, 1 portion of a bag was soaked placed in a rubbish bag and put into a locked in the studios another placed in a locker in the hallway.

Laser Cutting Material

Etching works, the surface is a bit like paper and will burn, it doesn’t create that much variation but it could be done in layers with different power levels to create more contrast. This could etch images, information, cataloging it etc.

Cutting the material with the laser cutter was a fail.The material is dense and the interior is irregular, Andrew believe that its because there is something about the material that is deflecting or dispersing the light, a comparable example is non- laser cutter plywood. 

The experiment however did prove that the material is some what fire resistant as the light was burn but it was being defused by the mycelium. it just left burn marks

Note (30/04/2021): Using a laser cutter for small thins needs to take into account the energy usage to power the laser cutter. It has been proven possible but that does not mean that it is something worth doing at least for my outcome or the show as it is only a short term thing that will be composited after the degree show.
