I know now that the reason I loved all these things was due to the art intrinsic to them all. Unfortunately, I didn’t go to college when I was younger (for a number of reasons) and because of that I missed out on Media Art training and I found myself working in jobs that had nothing to do with what I love. Since I’ve been at Miracosta I’ve taken as many of the MAT courses as I can and more than I should have in hopes of narrowing down the field to what I enjoy the most. It’s been incredible but there’s so much that I like about creating video & sound and editing it, typography and graphic design, and web development and design that it’s hard to pick a favorite. My inspiration at this point is general in nature. I love design in all forms.

I spent quite a bit of time customizing my Tumblr site and was very pleased with the result. When you first register you’ll find more than a few free template themes available. There are many premium templates available for $9, $19, or $49 as well.  It’s easy to customize them further in order to give a more personalized look. I found that I was able to alter everything from the header and avatar window images to the page colors and fonts. You’re also able to adjust the container margins as well which serves to give your page either a narrow or regular page appearance. I imagine that the premium templates offer even more customization points. I also added comments to my individual blogs using a Disqus plugin. Disqus describes itself as “a networked community platform used by hundreds of thousands of sites all over the web”. It further describes that “…with Disqus, your website gains a feature-rich comment system complete with social network integration, advanced administration and moderation options, and other extensive community functions. Most importantly, by utilizing Disqus, you are instantly plugging into our web-wide community network, connecting millions of global users to your small blog or large media hub.” This adds a significant feature by allowing more cross communication avenues to your blog through commenters and it was relatively easy to install. Basically, once you sign up with Disqus your profile, which is linked to a system built into Disqus, allow you to manage your community statuses and commentaries across sites that they may visit that support Disqus. Given their information you’re able to learn about the visitors to your blog or websites.
