Hey Miss S! Sorry to bother you, but needed some assistance. We're supposed to have a $5-10 gift for a secret santa exchange for work and I'm at a loss for what to get. What would you advise? Hmm! Well, I don't know how many people at your work are going to be involved, or how close you are with them, but if you're not assigned a certain person, you're going to want something that will work for pretty much anyone! I'm not sure if the tablet you're looking at would be suitable, at least not in my opinion; it seems like a lot of money to drop on a coworker who might not use it!
For the limit you have, look into something general but practical--gift cards/certificates, or small gift baskets. You can even make your own!! Popcorn, candy and cookies/cookie mixes are popular. Hot drink stuff, too! Get a nice mug (travel or not, or even one of each) and add variety packets of hot chocolate, tea, coffee, etc. If you can manage something homemade (like jams) that will work, too!
If you're doing anything with food or drink, though, just try to be aware of any allergies or restrictions your coworkers might have. If food/drink isn't an option as a result, try something like stationary instead.
Does your workplace the kind of place where everyone has something in common? IE where I work, we all love animals, particularly dogs, so I could basically get anything with pawprints and it would probably work. Or if you all have something you face at work--sore feet from standing, dry skin from washing your hands a lot--give them something that would allow them to pamper themselves a bit.
You might look into kitchen/home supply stores, too, and get something small and useful for their home--stuff like egg timers, cookie cutters, salt/pepper shakers...I know one year my parents got a nice mortar and pestle for a secret santa exchange.
