The dancers twirled and swapped as the music swam through the hall. All except the stumbling mass of a very thick robe and a full face mask. It stopped a foot away from Coronis before straightening and holding a hand out. Why had he decided to do this again? For her it would be unmistakable who it was and it looked like the recognition would be mutual. "My sincerest apologies. Certainly thou hast seen-" He paused and adjusted his mask. No, this wouldn't do. "Hast thee been faring well, Coronis?"
She had been dancing a turn, enjoying herself. Perhaps blind to the past, or future, and enjoying only the present. It was enough to forget everything for the evening. She had been drinking sweet cocktails and sampling good food. Everyone wanted to dance and be cheerful, and with the privacy of masks there was no worry for social missteps.
And yet as she turned to take up another partner, she found someone misstepping nonetheless.
"....!! Phel?"
It had to be him. It could only be him. No one else spoke that way that she knew of. And no one would be so very atrocious at dancing.
Even from behind the mask, her initial shock turned to visible sympathy. Yes....they had not spoken to each other in a long while. She still felt the sting and ugliness of how their friendship faded. But he was not in his element, and she was a sympathetic creature to an end.
"Here."
She offered her hand, gently adjusting his to a respectable waltz. "Like this. Slowly." Showing him the way.
She led the dance, giving him time to adjust to her movements. For such a master of the sword, his clumsiness on the dance floor shouldn't have been so obvious. She danced in silence, moving much more slowly than the others.
"....I've been well." She said quietly. "You talk much more formally now than when we were first acquainted. Something you picked up along the way?"
The glitter and glamour of the ballroom was perfect. Absolutely decadent. The work of Beelza and Beelzebub, the event of the year, the one party no one in Hell would want to miss. Already the guests had begun to surge in, the smell of Beelzjuice and appetizers wafting in the air, people already taking up dancing to the music.
And then a poison green mist gushed through the door.
"Me~smerize me~! I dare you try~"
It was the silhouette that would cause the first alarm, a head full of writhing serpents, disembodied hands, and a tall figure with three shimmering green eyes in the fog. But as it was swept away, Queen Vine made her grand entrance, illusory golden snakes skittering from under her sumptuous gown and startling guests as they slithered up to the crowd and dispersed into gold dust.
"I'm lost in the green, in the tides of the sea-" She sang with allure and her usual sly charms, hands moving in rhythmic motion as she danced her way in. "-Through the iris of stone, lie the snakes of her Majesty!"
Another plume of smoke and she rose up into the air, the green cloud crackling faintly with lightning and thunder. She continued her performance, her grand entrance as she was lifted up as if by a crowd, her head thrown back in delight of her own song.
"Mesmerize me!"
"I dare you to try!"
"Hypnotize me!"
"With Medusa's green eyes!"
Poof!
She vanished. And in an instant a spotlight fell on her descending the stairs, step by careful step. She was smiling, and things were falling from the green cloud she'd conjured to the ceiling. Flowers, shimmering bangles and little gold wrapped treats falling into people's outstretched hands.
"Stare my heart to stone."
"Just before the Holy Ghost."
"And my soul just can't let go-"
"-in this world I'm not alone."
She spread her arms as she gestured towards Queen Beelzebub. Her intention was perfectly clear, her amorous gaze obvious to all. If subtlety was an art, Vine was not interested in learning it. Even behind the mask, there was no denying her sheer dramatics, her shameless pursuit of the Sin of Gluttony.
"Let this line be known-" She crooned, and a hand tickled the underside of Beelzabub's chin. "Medusa's claimed her throne-"
"Press my lips to the reed-"

"The Queen of vain Vanity!"
She smiled at Beelzebub. It was a smile full of temptations and promises, wicked and playful and most certainly speaking of indulgences far beyond just a mere party.
