Author’s note: This is a request from an anon I got a couple of weeks ago. Hope you like it, and as always, thank you for reading! 💜
Little summary: You and Mason have been together for a few years now and have a solid relationship, though sometimes you can't help but feel like he would prefer to be single like all his friends are despite him always reassuring you that he is happy with you. But one night, while he is away on a lads holiday...
“Ok, so which one should I take to Ibiza? This one?” Mason says, showing me one of the shirts in his hands. “Or this one?”
“They both are ugly.”
“Hey!”
“I was joking, relax” I chuckle. “But I like the blue one better.”
“Because it is your favourite colour?”
“Maybe.”
“Then I'll take that one. It will remind me of you the day I wear it” he smiles.
“Will it, tho? Because you may be so busy having fun with your friends that you may not remember I exist.”
“What?” Mason says. “How could I forget you exist?”
“I don't know” I shrug.
“Wait. Wait, wait wait” he says. “Please tell me you aren't thinking about that again.”
“About that? What do you mean?”
“About me wishing I was single like all my friends. About me being jealous of them and wishing I could also do whatever I want like they do.”
“I'm not…”
“You are” he says, sitting on the bed next to me. “You are, and you need to stop with those thoughts. One, because they aren't true and like I've already told you a million times before, I love you and I'm the happiest I've ever been with you, and two, because you are only hurting yourself.”
“I know, I just… I'm sorry” I sigh.
“There is nothing to be sorry about” Mason says, kissing my cheek. “We just need that beautiful head of yours to stop being so negative.”
“I'll try. I promise.”
“Good” he smiles, those dimples of him I love so much showing. “Now, should we go back to my packing? It's time for shoes, and I am going to need help with that.”
“Oh, I definitely. I don't know how someone can have such horrible taste in shoes.”
“Rude” he replies, bopping my nose and making me laugh.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Mason?” I say after picking up the phone. “Mason, why are you calling me this late? What happened?”
“It's over!”
“What?” I say barely hearing him over the music. “Mason, where are you?”
“At the club with the lads! And it's over!”
“What? What is over?”
“This!”
“Your holiday? I thought you were staying there for a few more days.”
“No! You!”
“Me? I'm over? Mason, what…”
“It's over! You… me… this… Bye!” he says before hanging up.
Did he… did he just break up with me? Over the phone? During a night out with his friends and while definitely being drunk?
Before he left he told me he loved me and to not worry… and now he has broken up with me?
“Fuck you, Mason. Just fuck you!” I say, throwing my phone to the other side of the room and hiding under the duvet, not being able to contain my tears.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Hello, I'm… what the hell?” Mason says as he walks into our house. “Why are all these suitcases here?”
“They are your things” I say, crossing my arms over my chest as I meet him at the door.
“What?” he says with a confused look.
“Please don't play dumb, Mason.”
“I'm not playing dumb. I just seriously don't know what is going on. What has been going on for the past few days, if I'm honest” he says. “Because you haven't been answering my calls or texts, and you didn't come to the airport to pick me up. I had to call a taxi.”
“Oh, poor you” I reply, rolling my eyes.
“What has happened? Why are you behaving like this?”
“Do you seriously have to ask, Mason. Seriously?”
“Yeah” he shrugs.
“I can't believe it” I say with a humourless laugh. “You broke up with me a few days ago, Mason!”
“What?”
“You called me at three in the morning and broke up with me! You reassured me everything was fine between us before you left, and just a couple of days after that you broke up with me!”
“I…”
“You told me you weren't jealous of your single friends. That you didn't miss that life and were happy with me. But it was all a lie. The moment you were out partying with them you realised how and what you truly felt.”
“That's true.”
“So you finally have the guts to admit it! Finally!” I say, lifting my arms.
“It's not what you think.”
“Isn't it? Then what the fuck it is, Mason? What is that you realised that night? Because you clearly told me that it was over. That you and I were over!”
“That's not… fuck” he says, rubbing a hand over his face.
“Fuck what? Speak, Mason! Speak before I kick you out of the house and I do it literally!”
“Ok” he says, taking a deep breath. “What I truly meant when I called you that night was that our relationship was over… but not in the way you think” he quickly says when I give him a murderous look. “What I meant was that it is over the way it is now. Because when I was out with the boys and they all were flirting with other girls and some of them even making out with more than one and two in the same night, I realised that I was over that life. That I didn't miss that or liked it anymore. That what I now like, is having more chill holidays. Going to visit monuments while you tell me all the history behind them, going for walks without a clear destination and end up seeing the city we are in for what it truly is and not just the parts destined for the tourists, discovering new restaurants, lay by the pool at hotel where we are staying while trying to get into reading because you always tell me how amazing it is… That's what I realised that night” he says. “That the lads holidays are over for me unless we are going to play golf somewhere and drink wine and eat amazing food afterwards while talking about sports. That my life is different now, and that what I want is to spend quality time with you. With the woman I love. The woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. And that's what I told the guys. That it was over, because I was and I am ready to start a new chapter. And when I called you…” he says, taking off his hat and running a hand through his hair.
“When you called me what?”
“When I called you I didn't make any sense and you understood it all wrong because I was drunk. Because we had been celebrating that I had decided to do something to start this new chapter in my life. Something that I wish I was not telling you about like this, surrounded by all these suitcases and with you extremely pissed at me, but… it is what it is” he sighs.
“Mason, I have no fucking clue about what you are talking about right now.”
“Yes, right, sorry” he chuckles, moving around the suitcases until he is standing in front of me. “What I mean… what I realised that night, told the guys about and we were celebrating… is that I want to marry you.”
“What?” I say, almost choking with the word.
“I want to marry you” he repeats. “That if you forgive me for definitely making you feel like shit over the last few days…” he says as he gets down on one knee. “I would like to marry you. Because I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Only you.”
“Mason I… I…” I mumble, trying to understand what the hell is going on. How we've gone from me yelling at him for breaking up with me over the phone, to this. To him proposing.
“I don't have a ring because, like I told you, I realised my feelings and what I wanted just a few days ago, but maybe… wait here.”
“What? Mason!” I say when he stands up and leaves the house. “Mason, where are you going?”
“One moment!” he says from the garden. “Ok, got it.”
“Got what? Mason, what are you doing?” I say when he comes back inside and he gets on one knee again.
“Asking you properly. Or as properly as I can. So… would you marry me?”
“Mason!” I gasp when I see what he's holding in his hand. What he had gone to the garden for.
“I know this daisy isn't a diamond, but for now it'll do. And daisies are your favourite flower, aren't they?”
“They are” I nod, looking at the one he has twisted so it looks like a ring. He's made me a ring with one of the daisies that grow in our garden’s grass. He… “Yes.”
“Yes tto daisies being your favourite flower or…”
“Yes to marrying you, Mason.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really” I chuckle.
“Yes” he smiles, those cute dimples he has showing on his cheeks before he gently puts the ring on my finger, making sure it stays. “I love you.”
“I love you too” I reply, wrapping my arms around his neck when he stands up again and kissing him.
“I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you” he says against my lips. “And I am going to repeat it to you every single day of the rest of our lives so you never forget it.”
“Ok” I laugh. “Though you know what would make me love you quite a lot right now?”
“Going to our room and helping me get rid of these sweaty clothes?” he smirks.
“Always thinking about the same” I reply, rolling my eyes. “What would make me love you a lot more, would be if you bought me a new phone.”
“What?”
“The screen of mine broke when I threw it against the wall when you broke up with me.”
“What?” he says again, this time laughing.
“Yeah” I shrug. “That is why I haven't been able to answer your calls or reply to your texts. Because I couldn't. And also because I didn't want to, to be honest.”
“But you do now, don't you?” he says, pulling me closer.
“I do. So why don't we leave all these suitcases here, go buy me that phone… and maybe check some rings?” I smile.
“That sounds wonderful” Mason smiles back. “Though can I please take a shower first? I promise I'll be quick.”
“Ok” I laugh.
“Thank you, future wife” he says. “I love you.”
“I love you too” I reply with a giggle when he bops my nose before running upstairs.

“And how is your French going? Have you already said something you shouldn't?” I say with a teasing smile.
“Ha ha ha” Ben replies over facetime, rolling his eyes. “You are so funny.”
“I know” I smile. “But have you spoken in French already or not?”
“Yes, I have. I went to the grocery shop the other day and the cashier understood me perfectly. You should have seen the way she smiled at me.”
“That probably was because she found you pretty” I laugh.
“Whatever” he replies. “Anyway, when are you and Mase going to come visit me? I miss you, guys.”
“And we miss you too, Ben. Don't we?” I ask Mason.
“Yeah” he says, his eyes focused on the game he's watching.
“When you said you were moving to Strasbourg I googled it and during Christmas it looked beautiful. Or at least in the photos I saw. So maybe we could go around that time. What do you think, Mason?”
“Yeah” he replies again, still looking at the tv.
“I don't know if coming during winter is going to be the best choice, tho. We both know how easily Mason gets cold” Ben says.
“As if you were any better” I snort.
“I am” he replies, sticking out his tongue. “And I have to go, I'm meeting some of my teammates for dinner. Talk to you soon, ok?”
“Ok” I smile. “Have fun, Ben.”
“You too” he winks before hanging up.
“You could have been nicer, you know?” I tell Mason.
“Uh?”
“With Ben. You could have been nicer. He's one of your best friends.”
“I'm sorry if I'm not in the mood to take part in your flirting.”
“Our what?” I laugh.
“Your flirting. Every time you facetime you sound more like a couple than friends.”
“That's nonsense, Mason.”
“Is it?” he says, finally looking at me.
“Yes, it is. We just talk like two friends do. Haven't you listened to me talking to my girlfriends? I'm the same with them, we tease each other the same way.”
“But they are your girl friends.”
“Wait, that is the problem here? That Ben is a guy?”
“No” he says, back to looking at the tv.
“Then why did you emphasize that they are my girl friends? Can't I have friends who are men?”
“Of course you can!”
“Then what is the problem? Why is me being friends with Ben different?”
“Because he…”
“He?” I say, arching an eyebrow.
“Because you used to fancy him.”
“I… Oh my God, Mason. Are you jealous?” I laugh.
“Should I?” he says, looking at me again.
“Of course not! Ben is my friend and you are my boyfriend! I love you!”
“Are you sure about that?”
“About what?”
“About me being your boyfriend. About loving me.”
“Mason, what…”
“Because you used to fancy Ben, remember? The night we met you were there to meet him. He was the only reason why you attended that party, because you wanted your friend to introduce you to him.”
“Yes, I know. But then I met you and I forgot about Ben.”
“But only because he ignored you the whole night and you were pissed at him” he says, crossing his arms over his chest.
“That's not true and you know it, Mason. I met you before I met him, and when we were finally introduced, I chose to stay with you instead of having a drink with him like he asked me to.”
“You did that because you knew he wasn't interested in you.”
“I did that because I liked you. Because I was having fun with you and wanted to get to know you better.”
“Yes, me. The second prize. The consolation one.”
“What? That’s bullshit, Mason.”
“That's the truth” he says, getting up from the sofa and leaving the room.
“Bullshit” I say, following him. “You are no second prize. You are the most amazing guy I've ever met and among many other things that's why I love you. Because you are fun, and charming, and caring, and loving, and obviously hot, and…”
“And so is Ben.”
“No, he isn't.”
“Then why are you friends with him? Why are you so close?”
“Because... Ok, fine. He is some of those things too and that's why I like him and we are friends. But it isn't the same. I don't love him. I don't feel for him the same things I feel for you.”
“Yeah. Ben doesn't make you feel like he's a liability” he says when we both make it to the kitchen, opening the fridge and getting a beer.
“What?”
“I'm a liability. I've just made your life miserable since we started dating.”
“Mason, what are you talking about?”
“That I made you move to a different city to be with me, away from your friends and family, and for what, uh? To take care of me because I've been constantly injured. You probably started dating me expecting to have a good life, and you've gotten a shitty one where the only thing you do is play nurse. And not in a fun way.”
“That I what?” I say, raising my voice. “Mason, are you implying that I'm with you because you have money? Because you can give me a good life?” I say, air quoting the last two words.
“Why else would you be with me and willingly go through all we've gone through?”
“Maybe because I love you?”
“Or because since you couldn't get Ben you decided to stick with me to get closer to him until the moment you get a chance with him. And when that happens you will leave me to be with him, the one you always wanted, and forget about me” he shrugs.
“I can't believe what I'm hearing, Mason. I can't fucking believe it” I laugh.
“Your life would have been a lot better with him. Admit it.”
“Would have? Are you sure of that? Because since you and I started dating, he hasn't spent most of his time injured too. And worse. He didn't get to play for six months, had to leave his club during the winter to play for another, and then the next season he had to leave and move to a different country. How is that better, Mason? How? And don't say that because he's the one I've always wanted.”
“But it is the truth, isn't it? You fancied Ben and went to that party because of him, not me.”
“I did, yes! But then I met you and I fell for you, not him! You!”
“Yes, me. The consolation prize.”
“The… Oh my God, Mason! Stop it!”
“Why? Does hearing the truth hurt?”
“The… Fuck you, Mason. Fuck you.”
“What… where are you going?” he says as I leave the kitchen and grab my car keys.
“Away from you. That's where you want me to be, don't you? Far away.”
“I don't…”
“You don't what, Mason?” I say, turning around to face him. “You don't want me to go? After all you just told me, after all your jealousy and the way you insulted me, now you don't want me to go?”
“No” he whispers, looking down at his shoes.
“Unbelievable” I laugh. “Make up your fucking mind, Mason! What do you want? Do you want me to stay or not? Do you want me to be with you or with Ben? What the fuck do you want?”
“I just... I...” he mumbles as he looks at me, tears starting to roll down his cheeks.
“You what?”
“I don't want you to go, but I can't help but feel like I don't deserve you! That you should be with someone else, someone better than me!”
“Someone like Ben?” I say crossing my arms over my chest.
“Yes! Because he isn't this insecure pathetic man who keeps sabotaging his relationship because he thinks he isn't worthy of the woman he is dating. Because he keeps thinking he is not worthy of her love and her time. Because you keep making sacrifices for me and to be with me, and what do I do for you, uh? Just fail again and again, on and off the pitch. I just want to make you happy… for you to be happy, and I can't. I can't do that. I just fail and fail and…”
“Mason” I say before wrapping my arms around him when he starts crying, his sobs shaking his whole body. “It's ok, Mason. Let it all out.”
“My life has been a complete disaster since I left London” he says when he manages to find his voice again. “Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. From my fitness, to the way the team is performing and all the issues at the club, to us.”
“Things between us haven't been a disaster, Mason.”
“But I made you leave your home for me, and what have I done in return? Just fail. Get injured over and over again. I haven't been enough for you. I am not enough for you.”
“Mason” I say, moving to cup his face and make him look at me. “You are more than enough for me.”
“I'm not. If I was, I would have not let you down over and over again. If I was, I would be on the pitch making you proud every day. But I'm not. I'm just sitting on the stands, watching my team suck.”
“You can't save the whole team, you know. It is a team, not something individual.”
“But I could help! I could make you proud!”
“Mason, you make me proud.”
“Sure” he snorts.
“You do” I say, caressing his cheek and wiping away some of his tears. “Because you don't give up, Mason. And you are right, things have sucked a lot lately. It's as if someone has a voodoo doll and is having the time of their life by making you suffer since you moved to Manchester. But despite all that, you haven't given up. You've kept fighting, moving forward, training your ass literally and figuratively to be at your best and help the team. To be back on that pitch. And you've done it. You've been back and you've shown how good you are. Because you are good, Mason. One of the best. And that's just as a football player. Because as a person you are the best I've ever known and one that makes me proud every single day. Because despite life sending you blow after blow, you keep moving forward with that smile of yours I love so much, the one that's all dimples. You don't fucking give up. And that's why I love you, Mason. I love you and I'm going to keep saying it until you stop this nonsense about you not being worthy and me being better off with someone else. Because I'm not. I love you, I want to be with you, and please stop me before I start rambling. You know that when I start it's hard for me to stop.”
“Yeah” he chuckles, finally smiling even if it is just a little bit. “But I… I needed to hear all this.”
“Then I will repeat it as often as you need it. Because you aren't any consolation prize, and I don't regret a single thing that has happened since the day I met you. Nothing. Because you are worthy and I love you, Mason. I freaking love you, you hear me?”
“I freaking love you too” he says. “And I'm sorry I said those things earlier. The jealousy and me implying that you just were with me because… Because the life I could give you. That was… God, that was horrible” he says, running a hand through his hair. “But I just… I…” he says before starting to cry again.
“Mason, I think you need to talk with someone" I say, hugging him again. "Someone who isn't me or a friend or family member. Someone… professional. I think you've been keeping inside a lot of things since we left London, and even though some of them are now out… There is more, isn't it?”
“There is, yes” he sighs.
“Then this is what we are going to do" I say, moving to look at him and wiping away the last of his tears. "Tomorrow I'll drive you to training and we will go talk with Rúben. Tell him you need someone to talk to and ask him if the club could help us find that person.”
“You… you would do that for me?”
“I would do anything for you, Mason. I am here for you. Always. And do you know why?”
“Because you freaking love me?” he says with a little smile, the dimple on his left cheek showing.
“Exactly. So if you are ok with it, that's what we will do tomorrow. Let me help you, Mason. Let us help you.”
“Ok” he nods.
“That's my boy” I smile. “Now, why don't we go grab that beer you left in the kitchen, get one for me too, and lay on the couch and watch “The Great British Bake Off”?
“And end up ordering something sweet because you always get hungry while watching it?” he says with a teasing smile.
“That's very likely to happen, yes” I laugh. “Shall we?” I say, taking my hand on his.
“Let's go. But first…” he says, his thumb caressing my knuckles. “First let me apologize once again for being a dick and for the things I told you. For hurting you the way I did.”
“Apology accepted l” I say, kissing his cheek.
“Thank you” he says. “So cuddles, beer and bake off?”
“Cuddles, beer and bake off” I reply. “I love you, Mason. Never ever doubt that.”
“I love you too” he smiles, that dimple on his left cheek showing in all its glory.
Prompt: Putting the Christmas decorations up together.
Masterlist
“There you go.”
“What is this?”
“A Christmas jumper” I say.
“And why have you thrown a Christmas jumper at my face?” Mason says while inspecting it.
“Because we are going to put the Christmas decorations up!” I smile.
“Today?”
“Yes, today.”
“But it isn't Christmas yet.”
“Mason, it's December 1st. It is Christmas.”
“What? Since when?”
“Since always. So c'mon, put it on and let's go get the boxes from the attic. I need those strong arms of yours, I can't do it on my own.”
“Now? The game is about to start!” he says, gesturing towards the tv.
“Then the sooner we do it the sooner you'll be back. C'mon.”
“Urgh. Fine.”
“Yay! Thank you, Mason” I smile as he takes off his hoodie.
“You're welcome. But I'm only doing this because you look too cute when you get this excited.”
“Yes… cute.”
“What… Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something wrong with my jumper?” he says with a confused look.
“Not at all.”
“Then?”
“You do have strong arms, you know?”
“My… Are you checking me out?” he laughs, putting on the jumper.
“I was” I sigh. “Anyway, let's go. It's Christmas!”
“Yes. Christmas” he chuckles, shaking his head and following me.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Where do I put these?”
“Over here” I say, pointing at an empty space in the living room.
“Great. Do you need anything else or can I go back to watching the game?”
“Mason, we are putting the decorations up together.”
“What?”
“It's our first Christmas in this house! It's a special one!”
“I know, but…”
“Please, Mason. We can start here in the living room so you can watch the game while we do it, but help me. Please” I pout.
“Doing that face is cheating, you know?”
“Please” I say again, pouting a bit more.
“Ok, fine. Fine!” he says, giving up. “But do I have to wear this while we do it?” he says, looking down at his jumper.
“Duh” I reply. “It's…”
“Christmas” he sighs. “Ok, where do we start?”
“The tree” I say. “It's on that box over there. Why don't you put it up while I make us some hot chocolates?”
“Is that really necessary? Or are you just sneaking out and leaving me here to do all the work?” Mason says, arching an eyebrow.
“No. You put the tree up, I put the decorations. Team work” I smile.
“Yes. We'll see” he says before I disappear into the kitchen.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Goal!”
“Shit! Really?” Mason says from under the tree.
“Yep, Bruno. It was a really nice goal.”
“And I missed it.”
“They are going to show replays everywhere, don't worry. Is the tree ready?”
“After half an hour fighting against it, I think it is, yes” he says, letting himself fall on the floor. “Who knew it was so bloody difficult?”
“I did. That's why I asked you to do it” I say with a teasing smile.
“Rude” he replies, sticking out his tongue and making me laugh. “Do you need my help with the ornaments?”
“It's ok, I can do it. Thank you, tho.”
“Anything for you” he smiles, his left dimple showing.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Bloody lights and their bloody cord that gets tangled every bloody year.”
“All good over there?” Mason asks me.
“All good” I grunt.
“Are you sure? It's half time, I can give you a hand with whatever you may need.”
“I'm fine, Mason.”
“Ok…” he replies. “Do you want a refill of your hot chocolate?”
“I'm fine.”
“Alright then.”
“Mason, wait” I say, stopping him as he gets up from the sofa. “Can you please also refill my mug and then maybe…” I say, looking down at the lights.
“Help you untangle that?”
“Yeah.”
“I will. Anything for my little Christmas elf” he says, kissing my nose when he reaches to pick up my mug.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Mason, what are you doing?”
“Sitting down to watch the second half?” he says with a confused look.
“You can't sit yet! We must put the first ornament together, it's a tradition!”
“A… Right.”
“Besides, I love the one we bought for this year's Christmas.”
“You mean…”
“The shark one, yes” I smirk. “You are half great white, aren’t you?”
“Urgh” he groans. “I should have never posted that video or let you buy that.”
“As if you didn't like it too” I chuckle, showing him the little shark.
“I love you. I guess that's why I did it” he sighs.
“Whathever the reason behind it, it is a very cute ornament, so come here.”
“Cute like me?” he says with a playful smile.
“Precisely” I reply.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Oh, c'mon!” Mason says from the sofa while I finish with the tree.
“What happened?”
“That they've equalised us and we only have two minutes left!”
“Two minutes is enough to score a goal.”
“Not in this game. Their defence is so tight it's almost impossible to make it through.”
“If you managed to untangle the Christmas lights, United can make it pass that defence” I chuckle.
“Yeah” he chuckles back. “Corner!”
“Holy shit, Mason!” I jump when he also jumps from the sofa.
“Sorry” he says. “But it's a corner! With Harry and Matthijs on the pitch that’s half a goal!”
“Cool. Just try not to scare me again, ok? I'm carrying a box with tinsel and we don't want it to fall from my hands. Cleaning it will be a nightmare.”
“I won't, I promise. I… goal!”
“Mason!” I scream when he now jumps at me and lifts me in the air, all the tinsel falling from the box.
“We scored! We are winning this bloody game! We… Oh my God. There is tinsel everywhere!” he laughs. “I actually think you got more of it on yourself than the tree."
“And whose fault is that?”
“Harry’s.”
“What?”
“He's the one who scored” he shrugs.
“The one who… idiot” I say, hitting him in the arm and making him laugh. “You are cleaning all this, you know?”
“I am, I promise” he says, getting some of the tinsel from my hair and trying his best not to keep laughing.
“It isn't funny.”
“I know, I know. But you look very cute covered in all this” he says with a teasing smile.
“I… Urgh” I groan. “Get the vacuum and clean all this. I'm going to get the star from its box.”
“You already look like one with all this golden stuff all over you.”
“Mason!”
“Ok, ok” he chuckles when I give him a murderous look. “No need to turn into the Grinch” he says, moving just as I'm about to hit him again.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“We have a problem.”
“Do we?” Mason says.
“I can't reach the top of the tree to put the star. In fact, neither of us can.”
“What?” he says, looking up from his phone.
“Short king and queen problems” I shrug.
“I’m not short.”
“Keep saying that to yourself, Mason” I chuckle. “Though maybe…”
“Oh, God. I don't like that face.”
“Face? What face?”
“That one” he says, pointing at me. “You are plotting something, and I'm not going to like it.”
“You don't like having my legs on your shoulders? Since when?” I ask him, arching an eyebrow.
“Oh you naughty little elf” he smirks. “But is that what you want? Your legs on my shoulders?”
“I do. But not like that.”
“Boring” he says, crossing his arms over his chest and flexing his biceps. He got rid of the Christmas jumper during the second half of the game with the excuse of being too hot, and has been just wearing his t-shirt since then.
“If you and your strong arms help me with this, you may get what you want.”
“Then I'm listening” he says, getting up from the sofa. “What do you want me to do?”
“Lift me up on your shoulders so I can reach the top of the tree and put the star.”
“Ok.”
“But be careful, Mason. I don't want any of us to end up injured. The tree included.”
“What?” he laughs.
“It's a very expensive one. And so are some of the ornaments.”
“I'll try my best. Come here” he says, crouching so I can sit on his shoulders. “Ready?”
“Ready.”
“Ok. Then I'm going up in three, two… one!”
“Mason!” I scream as he stands up.
“I've got you!”
“Are you sure?”
“As sure as the fact that you are going to leave me bald if you keep holding onto my hair like that.”
“Sorry” I say, letting go of it. “Can you get me a bit closer to the tree?”
“Sure can” he says, his hands on my low back so I don't fall backwards.
“A bit more?”
“If I get closer I'm gonna end up eating one of the ornaments.”
“Just a little bit. Please.”
“Fine” he sighs. “But be careful” he says when I stretch my arms.
“I almost… Can you go on your tiptoes?”
“What? While having you on my shoulders? Are you mad?”
“I can't properly reach the top of the tree, Mason.”
“Then let's go get the ladder.”
“The ladder doesn't look as cute as this.”
“Oh, yes. Because falling on top of the tree and breaking an arm looks extremely cute” he says, definitely rolling his eyes even though I can't see his face.
“Just a little bit closer. Maybe from that side, there are less ornaments.”
“Urgh” he replies.
“Yes! That's it!”
“You did it?”
“Yes!”
“Short king and queen for the win!” he says, making me laugh.
“You can put me down now, Mason.”
“Don't you like it up there?”
“Umm… no. I like being a short queen.”
“Ok” he chuckles, walking towards the sofa so I can use it to get down.
“And? What do you think of the tree?”
“I think it looks beautiful. Like you, my little Christmas elf” he says, kissing my cheek and making me giggle. “Merry Christmas.”
“I thought you said it wasn't Christmas yet, that it was only December 1st” I say with a teasing smile.
“I changed my mind” he shrugs. “Have you changed your mind about that other position that has your legs on my shoulders?” he says, wrapping his arms around my waist. “I think I've earned it for helping you with the tree.”
“I think you have, yes.”
“Then let's go.”
“Mason!” I laugh when he lifts me again and throws me over his shoulder.
“Ho ho ho” he says, pinching my butt and making me giggle. “Merry Christmas!”
“Merry Christmas” I laugh again as he carries me to our room.
I was thinking after yesterdays match doing a fluff fic of Mason on scoring his 2 goals with reader? Like maybe some cute moments after the match and reader watching at old Trafford being proud of how far he’s come since injury and scoring for the first time at old Trafford? Thank you🫶🏼
Here you go! Hope you like it, and thank you for your request! 😊💜

“Morning, gorgeous” I say, wrapping my arms around Mason's back and kissing his shoulder.
“Morning” he smiles while finishing his coffee. “Did you sleep well?”
“Like a baby. I even remember what I dreamt about.”
“Ummm, let me guess… It was a very naughty dream with yours truly” he smirks.
“You wish” I laugh. “Though it was about you, you got that right.”
“And what did I do in this dream if it wasn't something naughty?” he says, turning around in my arms to face me.
“You scored your first goal at Old Trafford, and the whole stadium chanted your name while I smiled from ear to ear and felt extremely proud of you. I mean, I am always proud of you, but in that moment even more.”
“That sounds amazing.”
“It was amazing. And it may happen tonight.”
“I'm not so sure of that” he sighs.
“It will, Mason. With the goal from the other you left behind all the pressure and doubts you've had because of your injuries, and now things will flow and you will be the player you've always been. I'm sure of it.”
“Well, if my number one fan is so optimistic, I guess I should too” he smiles, that dimple on his left cheek showing.
“You definitely should” I smile back. “And if you could make your number one fan a good coffee to start the day, that would also be wonderful.”
“Ok” he chuckles, kissing my nose.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“That's my man!” I scream while everyone at Old Trafford chants Mason's name, the biggest smile on his face as he celebrates with his teammates that they've won, that they have made it to the Europa League final… and that he has scored two goals. Yes, two.
He got his first goal at Old Trafford like in my dream, and then another one that put an end to all the hopes Athletic had of making a remontada like they say in Spain. And I… I…
“Are you crying?” Mason's sister says next to me.
“I am, yes” I chuckle while wiping away my tears. “I am so proud of him. So so proud… You know how hard the past few months have been for him because of his injuries and everything going on in the club, so seeing him scoring and enjoying playing football again is just… I…”
“I'm the same, don't worry” she smiles before hugging me, Mason's face showing up on the big screens. “Oh, they are interviewing him!”
“Well, he's the man of the match. And this time it isn't me being biased” I laugh before focusing on what he is saying.
“It's been an amazing game and an amazing night” he says. “One I want to dedicate to my number one fan. The person who always believes in me and who supports me on the good and the bad days, but especially on the latter. The person who believes in dreams coming true. This is for you. I love you” he says, looking at where I am in the stands.
“I love you too!” I yell before starting to cry again.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“You all will get your autograph and photo, guys. Don't worry” Mason says to all the little kids surrounding him as he leaves the changing room. He actually is one of the last ones to do it since everyone wanted to congratulate him for the game and his goals. His two goals, and the first one at Old Trafford. I still can't believe it.
“Guys, would you mind waiting a second while I go say hello to someone?” he says, looking my way. “I promise I'll come back.”
“Ok” the kids murmur as Mason walks towards me.
“I could have waited a bit longer, you know?” I say as he wraps his arms around my waist and I do the same around his neck.
“I know. But I couldn't wait to do this” he says before kissing me, some of the kids giggling and others making gagging noises. “Thank you.”
“What for?”
“For your superpowers.”
“My what?” I laugh.
“You dreamt about me scoring tonight and I did it. You saw the future.”
“I've also dreamt about having dinner with Jonathan Bailey, and that hasn't happened” I chuckle.
“Ok, fine. Maybe that isn't a superpower. But what about being the person who always knows what to tell me when I'm feeling down after a bad game? About always being able to cheer me up and make me see the bright side of things? To always be positive? I would not be here tonight, celebrating the way I am, if it wasn't because of you” Mason says, caressing my cheek. “Because you've always been there by my side in every step I've taken, no matter if they were forward or backwards. Without you, I would have given up after the first bad thing happened. Without you, I would not be the person I am. Because you make me better. You make me be the best version of myself… while I just make you cry” he says, wiping away my tears. “I'm sorry.”
“These are happy tears, Mason. There is nothing to apologise for.”
“But I've made you cry.”
“I've been crying the whole night, this isn't new” I chuckle.
“What?”
“I cried when you scored your first goal, jumping and screaming that that was my man. The people around me probably thought I was crazy” I laugh.
“You do get a bit crazy when I'm playing, that's true” he says with a teasing smile, making me roll my eyes. “But I still love you.”
“And I love you too” I smile. “Then I also cried when the game ended and I saw you celebrating with the boys, and when you said all those lovely things during your interview. I was and I am so proud of you, Mason. So proud I don't have words to express it.”
“And actions?”
“Uh?”
“You can also show me how proud of me you are by doing certain things… if you know what I mean” he winks.
“Mason Tony Mount! You rascal!” I laugh. “There are children here! They could hear you!”
“They are too busy with Rasmus, they don't care about me anymore” he says, looking at his teammate while he tries to deal with all the kids.
“Mase?” he says when he notices us looking at him. “Mind giving me a hand here?”
“Oh, poor thing” I chuckle. “Go save him.”
“But you haven't answered my question yet” Mason says.
“I'll tell you later once you've helped your friend and made all those kids happy.”
“Fine” he sighs. “But before I go…” he says, letting go of me and going to talk with one of the team's photographers. “This is for you” he says when he joins me again.
“For me?” I say, looking at the two Polaroids he is giving me.
“Yep. We took them earlier in the changing room, and I thought it would be cute to give them to you to remember such a special night. One that would have never happened if it wasn't because of you.”
“You keep saying that as if I had scored the two goals” I laugh.
“Well, you were the one who manifested them with your superpowers, so” he shrugs.
“I did nothing. This has been all you, Mason. You, your hardwork and your talent.”
“And your support” he says, closing the space between us again.
“Mase…” Rasmus calls again.
“I should probably go help him, shouldn't I?” he chuckles.
“You should, yes” I reply. “But before you leave… is this going to be your new celebration?” I ask him, showing him one of the Polaroids.
“Maybe” he says, doing the same face as in the photo and making me laugh. “Don't I look gorgeous like you always call me?”
“Well…”
“Mason, bro!” Rasmus says again.
“Urgh” he groans.
“C'mon, go save the poor boy.”
“Fine” he sighs. “But I hate leaving my number one fan unattended.”
“Your number one fan doesn't mind. Besides, if I'm the last one, that will mean that I'll have you all for myself for the rest of the night… and that I'll be able to properly show you how proud of you I am” I smirk.
“I will be all yours for the rest of the night, I promise you” he smirks back. “But I also am all yours for the rest of my life, you know? I love you.”
“I love you too” I smile. “Now go help Rasmus” I laugh, giving him a push towards him and the kids when he tries to kiss me, his reply being the same face from his goal celebration and the Polaroid.

Masterlist
“Morning, camera girl.”
“Morning, Mount” I say while checking all my equipment. “Ready for another media day?”
“I was born ready for this.”
“Right. As if yesterday you didn't spend most of your free time practicing poses in front of the mirror” I say with a teasing smile.
“Same as you then. Though in your case, you were trying on outifts” he replies with a matching smile, that dimple on his left cheek showing.
“What?” I laugh.
“That outfit is new. Did you especially buy it for today? For me?” Mason smirks.
“You wish” I laugh again. “And the fact that you know this is new is kind of creepy, you know?”
“How is me liking clothes and noticing what you wear creepy?”
“Because it means you have been paying me too much attention.”
“And what if I have?”
“It's creepy.”
“Or maybe it's just that I like you” he winks.
“Right” I say, picking up my camera. “We both have work to do, so if you'll excuse me…”
“Sure. But try not to just film me. I know I am the most handsome one and your favourite, but the other guys also deserve your attention.”
“You are so humble, Mount” I reply, rolling my eyes.
“Your most humble servant” he says, doing something like a courtesy and making me laugh.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Bo.”
“Holy mother of… Mason!”
“God, I love it when you say my name” he says. “I mean, I also like it when you call me Mount, but when you say my name? Music to my ears.”
“You almost made me drop my camera, you idiot” I say, hitting him in the arm.
“Ouch!” he complains. “That hurt!”
“Good. Music to my ears” I smile.
“Are you into kinky stuff, camera girl?” he smirks.
“You… urgh” I groan, giving my back to him and walking away.
“I haven't seen you filming me” he says, following me.
“You told me the other guys also deserve my attention, remember?”
“I did, yes. But I also think it's time you pay me some attention.”
“Alright, then” I say, turning around and crashing against his chest.
“Careful” he chuckles, his hands suddenly on my waist. “Though I like it like this.”
“I don't.”
“Then why are you blushing?” he smirks.
“Because… because…”
“Because?” he says, closing the space between us a little bit. He is so close that I can perfectly see the freckles he has all over his nose.
“Because I'm working and this is very inappropriate.”
“Does that mean that if you weren't working we could be this close? Maybe even closer?”
“I… I…”
“Mason? Has anyone seen Mason?” someone from the team says.
“They are looking for you” I manage to say.
“Shame” he sighs, letting go of me. “Will you come film me while I'm doing whatever it is they want me to do?”
“Probably not.”
“You are so mean, camera girl… I like it” he winks before leaving.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Have you seen what we got here?” I ask Mason as he walks past me.
“What… Oh! You are finally paying me attention! Hello” he smiles, waving at the camera.
“Have you seen what we got here?” I say again.
“Is that… is that the golf thing from the video we filmed at Old Trafford?”
“The very same. It must bring you really bad memories.”
“You were there, camera girl. That could never bring me bad memories.”
“Right, well…” I say, trying to ignore how what he's said and the sight of that stupid dimple on his cheek has made me feel. “Why don't you give it another go?”
“Nah…”
“Mason Mount saying no to playing some golf? Are you afraid of looking like a failure again?” I tease him.
“I am good at playing golf. Or at least quite decent, you can ask Luke.”
“Right…”
“I am. You just caught me on a bad day. And that club you gave me? That wasn't the right one for that game.”
“Excuses, excuses” I say. “So, are you going to give it a go or are you scared of making a fool of yourself?”
“I am.”
“Going to make a fool of yourself?” I smirk.
“So mean…” he says, picking up one of the golf clubs. “Turn off the camera.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Turn off the camera” he says again.
“Why would I do that?”
“Because you don't want your peers listening to what I am about to say when you edit all this footage.”
“What?”
“Let's make a bet.”
“What?” I say again.
“A bet. Five balls. If I manage to get them all in, you let me take you out on a date.”
“A what?” I laugh.
“A date. You know what it is, don't you?”
“Of course I do. But why would I agree to going on a date with you?”
“Maybe because you fancy me?” he smirks.
“You wish” I snort, finally doing as he's asked me and turning off the camera. People already tease me enough about Mason, we don't need actual proof of him flirting with me.
“Then there is nothing to be afraid of.”
“I'm not afraid of going out on a date with you, Mount.”
“Not even if you may end up falling madly in love with me?” he says, still smirking.
“Whatever” I reply, rolling my eyes and making him laugh.
“Five balls and we are going on a date” he says, offering me his hand.
“But five balls in five tries. No practice.”
“Deal” he says.
“Ok, then” I say, taking his hand. “Seeing how rubbish you were the last time, this will be over quite fast and then I'll be able to go back to work.”
“I may surprise you.”
“I don't think so. Are you going to start or…” I say, looking at our hands.
“I like holding your hand.”
“And I think you are buying time because you know you are going to fail.”
“Watch me.”
“Fail? Looking forward to it” I say with my best smile as he finally lets go of my hand.
“You know, I've changed my mind. You should film this” Mason says as he gets himself in position.
“Are you sure? It is going to be very embarrassing if you fail again.”
“But I am not going to” he says. “Turn on the camera.”
“Fine” I sigh. “I'm ready when you are ready.”
“Am I in shot?”
“Of course you are. I know how to do my job, Mount.”
“I know you do. But is all of me in shot or just my ass?”
“Ass? What ass?”
“Oh, so you've been looking. How else would you know I don't have one?” he smirks, looking at me through the corner of his eye.
“Stop wasting my time and hit the bloody ball, Mount.”
“Yes, ma'am” he says, taking a couple of seconds to focus and then… “One.”
“Congratulations. Only four more to go.”
“Two” he smiles at the camera as another ball easily goes in. “This golf club is much better than the other one” he says, getting himself into position again. “Why didn't you give me this one the last time? Did you do it on purpose to make fun of me?”
“In that case I didn't, no. I was just a camera girl like you like calling me.”
“I do like calling you that” he says. “And that's three. Nervous?”
“Are you?”
“I asked first.”
“I… shit” I say as another ball goes into the little hole.
“That’s four.”
“I know how to count, Mount.”
“I haven't said the opposite. I know you are a clever girl, that's one of the reasons why I like you” he says, picking up one of the balls. The last one. If this one goes in… “Let's make this game even more interesting.”
“This was being interesting?” I chuckle to hide that I am nervous.
“All or nothing” he says, moving to stand in front of me and leaning forward so only I can hear him, which means that he is basically talking in my ear. “If it goes in, we are going on a date. If it doesn't, I'm the failure you say I am and you can keep making fun of me.”
“Whatever happens I am going to keep making fun of you. It is one of my favourite hobbies.”
“Does that make me one of your favourites? Maybe your most favourite one?” he smirks, our faces just inches away.
“You wish” I manage to say, making him laugh. A laugh that I've felt on my skin and… Focus. I must stayed focus.
“Ok, all or nothing” he says, walking back to where the golf game is and getting himself in position while I let out a big breath that I hope he hasn't noticed. “Though let's make it even more interesting.”
“Mason…” I sigh.
“I'm not looking.”
“What?”
“I'm not looking” he says, his eyes fixed on me as he hits the ball.
“You've got to be kidding me.”
“It went in, didn't it?” he says, his smile growing by the second, his dimples showing in all their glory.
“How did you do that? Have you been practising? You… that's it, isn't it? You and your competitive ass…”
“I thought I didn't have an ass.”
“Shut up” I tell him. “You bought yourself one of these things to practice, didn't you?”
“Maybe” he shrugs.
“You did. Oh my God, you did!” I laugh. “Where do you have it? In your living room? In your bedroom? Do you practise every morning when you wake up and every night before getting in bed?”
“Why so interested? Is that your way of telling me you want our date to be at my house?” he says, arching an eyebrow.
“No.”
“Are you sure? Because it definitely sounds like it” he says, walking towards me again while resting the club on his shoulder, something that looks way sexier than it should. “It sounds as if you want me to show you my bedroom.”
“Why would I want to see your room?”
“I don't know, you tell me” he shrugs, stopping in front of me.
“If you are done showing off and being cocky, I have work to do” I say, taking a step back and putting some distance between us when I remember that the camera is still filming.
“You like it when I am cocky” he says with a teasing smile.
“I don't.”
“Keep lying to yourself, camera girl.”
“I don't, Mount. And if you keep being an idiot, you won't get that date.”
“What? Would you seriously do that to this face?” he pouts.
“What is that face?”
“One that just made you laugh” he smiles. “Anyway, are you free tonight?”
“Tonight?”
“Unless you had other plans.”
“No, no. I'm free.”
“Perfect! Then I'll pick you up after this afternoon's training session. Does that sound good?”
“Yes, sure. But you better not be taking me to Nando’s or something like that, Mount. You can pay for a fancy restaurant, you have enough money.”
“I won't, don't worry” he laughs. “I'll see you later, ok?”
“Ok” I nod.
“Great” he smiles before kissing my cheek, a little gasp escaping my lips. “I love it when I make you blush, camera girl.”
“I… umm…” I mumble.
“I’ll leave so you can keep working. I've distracted you long enough.”
“You actually have, yes. Go annoy someone else.”
“As if you didn't like it” he laughs. “See you later, camera girl” he winks.
“Goodbye, Mount” I reply, that smile of his that makes the dimple on his left cheek pop being the last thing I see before he turns around, leaving me smiling like an idiot.

“I should have also asked for that dessert.”
“Told you” I smile before taking a spoonful. “So good, Mount.”
“Bloody hell, camera girl. You should not be saying those things in a public place.”
“What?” I laugh.
“So good, Mount? That's something you would say if my nose was performing one of its miracles” he smirks.
“I…”
“If you aren't going to eat that, I will.”
“You…” I mumble, still trying to process what he has implied.
“I'm eating it.”
“What the fuck are you doing, Mason?” I say, finally reacting when he moves his chair from the other side of the table to be next to me.
“Eat that” he says. “Do you want to feed me?”
“Are you a baby, now?” I snort.
“I don't know. Is that the pet name you have for the boys you date?”
“One, I'm not dating you. And two, eww, no.”
“Good. I don't like baby either. And we are on a date, so in a way you could say we are dating” he shrugs.
“We aren't dating, Mount.”
“Yet” he winks before wrapping his fingers around my wrist and moving my hand to feed him the piece of cake I had on my spoon. “So good, camera girl. No wonder it made you moan.”
“If you think that was a moan, you aren't very familiar with them.”
“Then maybe you could teach me” he says, closing the little space that is between us a bit more.
“I would be wasting my time trying to teach you.”
“Or not. We both may enjoy it a lot” he smirks.
“I beg to differ. And go back to your seat.”
“Why? Don't you like having me this close, camera girl?”
“What I don't like, is having the people from the restaurant calling us out for moving their chairs.”
“Fine” he sighs. “Though you know…” he says once he is back in his seat. “You didn't deny that you like having me close.”
“I don't like having you close, Mount.”
“Nah, too late. Now I don't believe you.”
“Whatever” I say, taking another spoonful of my cake and trying to ignore the way his eyes follow my every move and fix on my mouth.
“You are blushing.”
“And you are a creep” I reply, making him laugh.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“And?”
“And what?” I say as we leave the restaurant.
“Was going out with me worth it or not?”
“The food was really good and free, which is always a plus. But the company…”
“The company was excellent.”
“The company sucked.”
“That's not true.”
“It is, Mount.”
“It isn't. I haven't sucked you anything.”
“What?” I laugh.
“I'm really good at sucking, you know” he says. “Sucking, biting, squeezing, licking…”
“Being an idiot…”
“You are really good at blushing” he says, his hand suddenly caressing my cheek.
“Stop teasing me, Mount.”
“Make me” he smirks.
“You…”
“Woah!” he laughs. “Were you seriously going to slap me?” he says, his hand holding mine.
“You deserve it.”
“I just took you out on a very nice dinner, camera girl. What I deserve…” he says, closing the space between us while still holding my hand. “Is a kiss.”
“Ha!” I laugh. “Keep dreaming, Mount.”
“Oh, I've dreamt about kissing you plenty of times” he says, his other arm wrapping around my waist, pulling me closer towards him. “And I'm dying to find out if in real life your kisses are as good as in my imagination.”
“No.”
“Your kisses aren't good? I can help you practice” he smirks.
“I said no, Mason. Let go of me.”
“Ok” he says, actually doing it. “Do you want me to drop you at your place?”
“Wait, that's it? You aren't going to keep insisting or teasing me?”
“You said no, and no is no” he shrugs.
“Oh.”
“C’mon” he says. “Since we are going to your place I'll let you pick the music.”
“So thoughtful, Mount” I say, trying to go back to our usual teasing but finding myself giving him an honest smile.
“Always” he smiles back.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“And we've made it safe and sound” Mason says, stopping his car. “Though to be completely sure, may I walk you to your door?”
“What?”
“What if there is someone hiding at your door waiting to attack you?”
“I can defend myself, Mount.”
“And I don't doubt it seeing how my arm still hurts from when you hit me earlier. But two against one always works best.”
“I'm not going to let you in, you know?”
“Is that a yes, then?” he smirks.
“Yes” I sigh.
“Thank you, camera girl” he smiles before kissing my cheek, my skin tingling where his lips have been for whatever the reason.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Now I understand why your ass looks so nice.”
“I'm sorry?” I say, stopping to look at Mason.
“You live on the 3rd floor and there is no lift. You have to go up these stairs every day, and that, my dear, is amazing for your glutes.”
“It also is an amazing way to get rid of annoying men you don't want into your house” I say.
“What?”
“They get tired and they give up, and you are out of breath, Mount” I smirk.
“No I'm not.”
“Sure.”
“I'm not. I'm a professional athlete.”
“And these stairs have beaten you. But it's ok, I won't tell anyone.”
“They haven't beaten me” he insists.
“It's fine, Mason. Seriously. They have machines with steps at the gym for a reason” I shrug.
“They haven't beaten me” he repeats. “Just watch.”
“Mason!” I say when he starts running up the stairs. “Mason, be careful!”
“I'm fine!” he says from my floor.
“All good?” I say when I make it.
“All good” he says, trying to discretely catch his breath. “But I could do with a glass of water.”
“Because you are randomly thirsty, right?” I say with a teasing smile.
“Exactly” he replies.
“It doesn't have to do with the fact that you just ran up the stairs.”
“Nothing to do with it.”
“You are just thirsty.”
“Yes, I am. Stop teasing me.”
“It sucks when someone does it to you, uh?”
“Meh, meh, meh” he replies, sticking out his tongue like a little kid and making me laugh.
“Ok, you've earned that glass of… what the hell?”
“What happened?” Mason says, showing up by my side when I turn towards my door.
“Something bad. Something really really bad” I say while looking for my keys.
“What… shit. Is that water coming from under your door?”
“No, it's vodka.”
“What?”
“Of course it's water, Mason! God, if one of my pipes has burst I am so fucked!”
“If something like that had happened someone would have called you. Do you have neighbours downstairs?”
“I do.”
“Then if it was something that bad they would have seen something and called you.”
“Or not. Or… where are my bloody keys!”
“Here, let me help you” Mason says, taking my bag from my shaky hands and looking for them. “Got them. Which one opens the door?”
“The smaller one next to the red one.”
“This one?”
“Yes” I say when he shows it to me. “Please be quick, Mason.”
“Everything is going to be ok, you'll see. You have a nice collection of key chains, you know? But do you need them all?”
“Mason!”
“Ok, ok. Sorry” he says, focusing on opening the door. “Wait here, I'll go first.”
“There is not going to be anyone hiding behind my door, you know?”
“But it may still be dangerous, we don't know where the water is coming from. So stay here. Please.”
“Fine” I sigh, not being able to say no to the way he is looking at me. To how concerned and worried he looks for my safety. It is… it… It is so cute. “But be careful too.”
“I will, don't worry” he winks before walking into my apartment.
“And? What is it? Mason?” I say from the door.
“It's coming from the kitchen” I hear him say. “I think…”
“You think? Mason!” I call again.
“I think I'm going to have to buy you a new washing machine instead of flowers for our next date” he says as he joins me again.
“What?”
“The water is coming from yours. I think it's broken.”
“Wonderful! Just wonderful!”
“It's going to be ok, camera girl. The water didn't do any damage, it's just the washing machine that is ruined. I think. I'm not… hey” he says, his arms suddenly wrapping around my body and hugging me when I start crying. “It's ok. It's going to be ok.”
“My apartment is flooded, Mason” I say against his chest.
“It isn't. We can get rid of the water with a couple of mops and some buckets.”
“I only own one mop.”
“Then we'll find something else. But it's going to be ok. I promise you” he says, hugging me a bit tighter.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“See? We did it” Mason smiles after we've cleaned most of the water.
“Yeah” I reply. “Thank you for helping me.”
“Any time, camera girl. But I should probably check the washing machine and make sure it won't start leaking again during the night.”
“Do you know how to do that?”
“I'll just unplug it” he shrugs before walking into the kitchen.
“You hadn't unplugged it already? Mason, there was water everywhere!” I say, following him.
“Fuck!”
“Mason! What… Oh my God” I say when I walk into the kitchen after hearing a weird noise. “Are you ok?”
“What do you think?” he says.
“I think you are a bit wet” I reply, trying my best to not start laughing.
“Just a bit wet, camera girl? Just a bit?” he says, running a hand through his hair.
“Ok, fine. You are completely soaked. From head to toe” I chuckle. “What happened?”
“That there still was water inside your washing machine, and when I opened it… boom!”
“You got a free shower.”
“Don't laugh at me, camera girl.”
“I'm not laughing.”
“You are.”
“I'm… ok, I am” I laugh. “But you just look… you look…”
“Hot?”
“What?”
“Your eyes were focused on my t-shirt” he says, a teasing smirk on his face when I look at it.
Because yes, my eyes were focused on his t-shirt. On the way it is clinging to his body, letting you get a glimpse of his muscles and…
“I don't know what you are talking about.”
“Yes, you do, camera girl. You were checking me out” he says, taking a step forward towards me.
“No, I wasn't.”
“You were. Your blush is giving you away. But I don't mind. I like that you like me” he says, still smirking.
“I don't like you, Mount” I say, crossing my arms over my chest as if to protect me. To put some distance between us now that he is standing in front of me.
“Keep telling that to yourself.”
“I will. And we should probably get you out of those wet clothes.”
“I'm all yours” he says, opening his arms.
“What?”
“Take off my clothes. That's what you want, isn't it?”
“Yes. But not because of what you are thinking about.”
“And what am I thinking about?”
“It’s more with which part of your body you are thinking” I say, quickly looking down at his crotch and then up again.
“It's a really nice part of my body, you know? One I think you would thoroughly enjoy.”
“I'll pass” I say, taking a step back and praying I'm not blushing too much, though since his smirk has turned into a grin, I'm definitely failing at it. Again. “Now give me your car keys. I'll go get that bag of clothes you keep there so you can get change. If you get sick because of this, Amorim will kill me.”
“He doesn't have to find out.”
“Your keys, Mount” I say, extending my hand.
“Fine” he replies, rolling his eyes.
“Good boy. Now clean this up, I'll be back in a minute.”
“And call me a good boy again?”
“What?”
“I've really liked how that sounded, it's way better than baby. And I can think of a few case scenarios where you can say it again.”
“You… urgh” I groan. “Clean this mess. I'm going to get your clothes” I say, giving my back to him and leaving the kitchen, his stupid smile with its stupid dimples following me all the way to his car.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“You carry so much junk on that car, Mount” I say once I'm back at my apartment. “You should ask someone to… Mason!” I gasp when I walk into the living room.
“Hello, camera girl” he smiles.
“What the fuck are you doing?”
“Waiting for you, of course.”
“Half naked?”
“You asked me to take off my clothes because they were wet and you didn't want me to get sick, remember?” he says from my sofa. A sofa where he is sitting just in his underwear, his arms stretched over the back of it while his legs are spread wide open.
“Yes, I remember. But was this really necessary?”
“Don't you like it?” he smirks.
“No.”
“Liar” he laughs.
“Whatever. Here are your clothes” I say, throwing the bag with them at him.
“Ouch!” he complains when it hits him.
“Don't be a baby, Mount.”
“I thought I was your good boy. And wait, where are you going?” he says as I walk towards the door.
“To make sure no more water is leaking.”
“You aren't going to stay for a little bit and chat? I saved you the best seat” he says, looking down at his crotch.
“Gross, Mount. Gross” I say before leaving, his laugh following me.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
“Well, I'm dressed. Happy?” Mason says when he joins me in the kitchen.
“You look as ridiculous as you always do” I say, making him roll his eyes. “But yes, I'm happy you are dressed, avoiding getting sick, and have also stopped your manspreading display.”
“As if you hadn't liked it, camera girl” he winks.
“I didn't. And here is your shirt, thank you for letting me borrow it. I would give it a wash before giving it back to you, but…”
“It's alright, don't worry. You can actually keep it. It looks better on you than on me.”
“What? Mason, this is a Dior shirt.”
“Yes, and?” he shrugs.
“This probably is worth what I earn in a year.”
“If they pay you that little, I'm going to have a word with them. You are our best videographer but especially photographer, I love everything you shoot. The photos from the derby a couple of weeks ago? Those were amazing.”
“You… liked them?”
“I posted on my Instagram, didn't I? I remember that you liked my post” he smirks.
“But just because they were my photos, not because you were in them.”
“Of course” he says, still smirking. “But they should always have you taking photos instead of videos. I'm not saying they are bad, but photography is your thing.”
“I… umm… thank you” I manage to say, my cheeks starting to burn.
“You are very welcome” he says with that smile of his that is all dimples, the one that by now is his real and honest one.
“Right, ummm… I think it's time for you to go home.”
“Already?” Mason says. “I thought we could chat a bit more. Maybe have one last drink, see where the night takes us, you know?”
“The night is taking you to your bed, and me to mine. Tomorrow we both have to get up early and go to work.”
“We could go together, you know?” he says, back to his usual annoying and flirting self.
“If we do all that today, what are we going to do on our second date?”
“Wait, we are going on a second date?” he says, his eyes growing wide.
“Only if you buy me a new washing machine.”
“Done” he says, offering me his hand.
“Mason, I was just teasing you” I laugh. “I'm not going on a second date with you, and you aren't buying a washing machine.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don't like you.”
“Liar” he says, taking a step forward and closing some of the space between us.
“I don't like you.”
“And that's a lie, camera girl” he says, moving closer.
“I don't” I insist.
“Then let's make a bet.”
“You and your bets” I reply, rolling my eyes.
“One kiss, camera girl. I'll give you one kiss, and if you don't like it, we won't go on that second date.”
“And you won't buy me a washing machine.”
“And I won't buy you a washing machine. But, if you do like it… if you enjoy it… we are going on a second date.”
“But you still aren't buying me…”
“I won't buy you the bloody washing machine whatever happens. But we will go on a second date. Dinner at my place.”
“You can't cook, Mount” I snort.
“Didn't say that I could. So, do we have a deal?” he says, offering me his hand again.
“Just one kiss?”
“Just one kiss, I promise. Deal?”
“I…” I say, looking down at his hand.
“Please don't bite your lip like that, camera girl. You know how it makes me feel. Just say yes or no and stop torturing me before I do something I shouldn't.”
“Ok, fine” I finally say. Am I going to regret this? Most likely. But at the same time…
“Is that a yes?”
“It is a yes. But just one kiss, Mount.”
“Just one” he smiles, his hands moving to cup my face. “Ready?” he whispers, his nose browsing against mine.
“Ready” I reply, making sure my hands stay at my sides and don't move from there. That my lips also don't move.
But easier said than done, because the moment his lips touch mine, I can feel electricity all over my body, and once he properly kisses me… When he properly kisses me the electricity turns into something I've never felt before. Like fireworks, something hot, goosebumps and butterflies on my stomach all together.
And I… I…
And I can't help myself and I kiss him back, my arms wrapping around his body. Which makes him smile against my lips and kiss me harder, his hands still cupping my face.
“You've lost, camera girl” Mason whispers, his thumbs caressing my cheeks before kissing me again. Though unlike the previous kiss, this is a gentler one. One more similar to our first. “Again.”
“I don't know what you are talking about” I whisper back.
“You've liked my kiss. You've actually done more than just like it. You've loved it.”
“I haven't.”
“Then why are you holding onto my t-shirt as if your life depended on it? Why did you kiss me back? What did you make that noise when I deepened our kiss?”
“I didn't make any noise.”
“Yes, you did” he says, biting my lower lip. “It was exactly that noise you just made when I bit you. One I'm going to dream about for the rest of my life.”
“You are so weird, Mount.”
“Yet you like me.”
“I don't.”
“Then don't kiss me back” he says before doing it. Before kissing me again and… and making me kiss him back.
But I can't help it. I just…
“Why are you smiling like that?” I say when we manage to stop kissing.
“How?”
“Like that” I say, caressing one of his dimples, something I may or may have not been wanting to do since the day I met him and he first smiled at me.
“Can't I smile?” Mason chuckles. “I think I have many reasons to do it, you know? For example, I just won another bet and I'm taking the girl I like on a second date.”
“There is no way I can say no that, is there?”
“Nope” he says. “But besides that, I've also gotten to kiss that said girl, and she has kissed me back, which only means one thing: She also likes me” he grins.
“You seriously are so annoying, Mount.”
“Admit that you like me and I'll stop” he shrugs.
“I can't admit something that I don't feel.”
“Then why have you kissed me back?”
“Because, surprisingly, you are a good kisser.”
“Ha!” he laughs.
“What? Don't you think you are a good kisser?” I say, raising an eyebrow.
“I know I am a good kisser. You've probably never been kissed like this before.”
“Ha!” I laugh, using his same tone.
“C'mon, camera girl. Say it. Say that you like me.”
“No.”
“Say it. You are dying to do it, to get it out of your chest.”
“I'm not.”
“You are! C'mon, say it” he pouts.
“I'm not going to say it if you make that face, Mason” I laugh.
“And if I do this?”
“Mason!” I laugh when he starts tickling me.
“You like me back, camera girl. I know you do.”
“I don't!” I reply, trying to free myself from his grip while still laughing.
“Then there will be no need for a new washing machine, because you will die of tickling.”
“What?”
“Tickle, tickle, tickle” he says with a stupid voice while I keep laughing.
“My tummy hurts from laughing, Mason! I'm going to be sore tomorrow!”
“I would prefer it if you were sore tomorrow due to other activities … ouch!” he says when I manage to pinch his arm. “But if you want me to stop, say the magical words… tickle, tickle, tickle.”
“Ok, fine! I'll say it!”
“Really?”
“Yes. Just please let me go. I'm pretty sure my mascara is all over my face from crying laughing and I look like a raccoon.”
“A very cute raccoon, tho” he says, kissing my neck as he stops tickling me, something that definitely doesn't help.
“Ok” I say, taking a deep breath and facing him. “I…”
“You…”
“I am going to say it.”
“Ok.”
“I'm going to say what you want to hear.”
“You are.”
“I am.”
“We already agreed on that, yes.”
“Right. I'm going to say it.”
“Stop teasing me, camera girl!” he says, tickling me again.
“Ok, ok” I laugh. “Mason…”
“Yes…”
“I… like you.”
“You what?”
“I like you.”
“I think I haven't heard you properly. You what?” he says, acting as if he was confused.
“Now who is teasing who?”
“Sorry” he smiles, wrapping his arms around my waist. “Say it one more time, please. I promise I will behave.”
“You better.”
“I will.”
“Ok” I say, taking a deep breath. “I like you, Mason.”
“Oh, she's said it! Did you hear that? She's said it! She likes me!”
“Who are you telling that to? We are alone” I chuckle.
“Someone may be listening to us, camera girl. Like, the secret service or something.”
“What?” I laugh.
“You never know” he shrugs.
“You are so weird, Mount” I laugh again.
“Yet you like me” he says, pulling me closer.
“I do, yes” I reply, resting my hands on his chest.
“Say it again. The whole thing. Please.”
“I like you, Mason.”
“God, I love hearing you say my name” he says with that smile that is all dimples.
“I know” I smile back before he kisses me again, making me forget about our bet this morning, the coffee I spilled all over my t-shirt before our date, the broken washing machine, my mascara all smudged over my face from laughing, or the fact that tomorrow we both have to be up quite early to go to work.
Author’s note: This is part 2 to the latest Mason imagine I posted back in August and that some people asked for. I know it has taken me maybe too long to post it, but I wasn't happy with what I had written, then it ended up having a third part, I wasn't inspired to finish that, and I don't like posting anything until it is completely finished 😅 So I hope you like it, sorry for the wait, and thank you for reading! 💜 (Female reader/pov)
part 1 | part 3
Masterlist
“Finally, camera girl! What happened?”
“Work took longer than I expected.”
“Oh, I see. You got distracted looking at my pretty face while editing, didn't you?” Mason smirks.
“You wish, Mount.”
“I don't have to wish for it. I know you do it, I've caught you staring at me more than once. And twice. And trice. And…”
“Whatever” I reply, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Wait. Why are you wearing a sweatshirt? It is bloody hot today, even I am wearing just a t-shirt and I am always cold.”
“Guess I'm just colder than you” I shrug.
“No you aren't. I've seen you wearing short sleeves in December.”
“See how you are a creep? I'm sure you have no idea about what my coworkers wear.”
“I do. One of them always wears black, for example. And another has quite a cool collection of t-shirts with funny puns. But I already told you, camera girl” he says, taking a step towards me. “If I pay more attention to you than to the others, it's because I like you.”
“Yeah, well” I reply.
“Anyway, should we get going? I made a reservation, we can't be late.”
“I'm not going.”
“What?”
“I'm not going on a date with you, Mount.”
“I won our bet, camera girl.”
“I know.”
“Then?”
“Then I'm not going” I shrug.
“Why?”
“Don’t look that hurt, Mason. You probably have a waiting list with girls who are dying to go out with you.”
“But I want to go out with you.”
“Wait, does that list actually exist?”
“Jealous?” he says, arching an eyebrow.
“Because of a scoundrel like yourself? Please” I scoff.
“A scoundrel… I think this is the first time someone has called me that” he chuckles.
“That's the level of intelligence of the people you hang out with.”
“Right…” he smiles, his left dimple showing. “But me being a scoundrel isn't the reason why you don't want to go out with me, is it? If it was, you would have said it earlier. So what is it? What happened?”
“That I can't go.”
“You can't go?”
“No.”
“Why?” he asks.
“Are you taking me to a fancy restaurant?”
“I am, yes. That's what you wanted, didn't you?”
“Then I can't go.”
“What… You aren't making any sense, you know?” he says, running a hand through his hair.
“And there go all the hours you've definitely spent in front of the mirror getting ready” I sigh.
“Uh?” he says with a confused look.
“You just ruined your perfect hair, Mount.”
“You think I have perfect hair?” he smirks.
“It definitely is better than whatever some of your teammates have going on. May I?”
“Sure” he says as I close the space between us and run my hands through his hair, trying to tame the crazy bits. Why am I doing this when I was just trying to stay away from him?
“How does it feel to fulfill one of your fantasies?” he asks me.
“What?”
“You've definitely dreamt about doing this, camera girl. About having me this close and get to run your hands through my hair.”
“The only time you've shown up in my dreams you've been eaten by zombies.”
“What?” he laughs.
“You and half the team if that makes you feel better.”
“Did you at least cry for me since I am your favourite one?”
“You aren't my favourite one, Mount. And your hair is done” I say, taking a step back.
“Thank you” he smiles. “Can we now go on our date or…”
“I told you I'm not going.”
“But why?”
“Because…”
“Please don't bite your lip like that.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“You do it all the time and it is my weakness. You don't know the things that cross my mind when you do it.”
“I… umm…” I mumble, trying to find a witty reply but only feeling my face starting to burn.
“And now you blush. Are you trying to kill me?” he says, touching his hair again and ruining what I just fixed.
“I'm sorry, Mason.”
“And now she says my name! Do you want me to kiss you, camera girl? Is that what you want? Turn me on so I kiss you?”
“Why would I want that?” I say with a nervous laugh.
“Because you like me” he smirks.
“I don't like you, Mount.”
“You do.”
“I don't. That's why I don't want to go out with you.”
“That's a lie. You do want to go out with me, but something happened.”
“Nothing happened.”
“Liar.”
“I… Ok, fine.”
“Woah, camera girl. I thought we would wait to be at my house to take off our clothes.”
“What?” I say, my arms twisted around my body as I try to take off my sweatshirt.
“You were quite interested in seeing my bedroom, remember?” he says with a teasing smile.
“Do you want me to tell you why I can't go out with you or not?”
“I do.”
“Then shut up.”
“So bossy, camera girl. I like it. Are you always like that?”
“Mason…”
“Ok, ok” he laughs. “I'm shutting up.”
“I can't go out with you because of this” I say when I finally manage to get rid of my sweatshirt.
“What do you… oh. What happened?”
“My coffee happened” I sigh, looking down at the huge stain on my shirt. “I got distracted and…”
“You got distracted while editing my parts of the video, didn't you?”
“I did.”
“You did?” he says, raising his eyebrows.
“Seeing your stupid face was a jump scare.”
“So mean, camera girl” Mason laughs.
“You should come with a warning.”
“Yes. A warning because I am too hot” he winks, making me roll my eyes. “But we can fix this.”
“Your face? I don't think so. Just trying to do something with that nose needs a miracle.”
“People love my nose. It actually performs miracles, you know?”
“What?” I laugh.
“I'll show you if our date takes us to my room” he smirks, my face burning once again. “Because we are going on this date.”
“With my shirt looking like this? You said you are taking me to a fancy restaurant, Mason. They aren't going to let me go in looking like this!”
“Lucky you, I can fix that” he says, opening his car's boot.
“What…” I say, following him.
“It may be a bit wrinkled, but I think… here it is” he smiles, getting a shirt from a bag full of clothes.
“Do you carry a second wardrobe in your car?”
“It's just some basic stuff that goes with everything in case of emergency” he shrugs.
“You are so weird, Mount” I chuckle.
“Yet you like me” he winks. “I know it is a bit big for you, but if you tuck it in your jeans it will look like an oversized shirt.”
“I…”
“C'mon, try it on.”
“I'm not going to get undressed out here.”
“Right. You are saving that for when I show you my bedroom.”
“Idiot” I say, hitting him in the arm and making him laugh.
“I'm not getting undressed out here because anyone could see me, and that includes you.”
“Unless you aren't wearing a bra, which you are” he says, looking down at my chest and bringing my blush back. “I've seen everything that is to see.”
“What?”
“We follow each other on Instagram and you've posted yourself wearing a bikini, camera girl. This is the same” he shrugs.
“You…”
“Yes?” Mason says, lifting an eyebrow and trying his best to not smile, his dimple betraying him.
“Turn around.”
“What?”
“Turn around, Mount.”
“Oh, c'mon.”
“If you don't turn around then I'll do it” I say, giving my back to him.
“I seriously don't understand why you are going this shy with me when you are dying to get on my bed, camera girl.”
“Keep dreaming” I say, my hands shaking a bit while I unbutton my shirt. Why is he implying that I… that we… Why is that making me nervous?
“I haven't stopped dreaming about you since the day I met you. Glory glory Man United made a lot more sense when I saw you.”
“What?” I say, looking back at him and finding a kind of sweet smile on his face instead of the smirk I was waiting for.
“You still have one button left.”
“What?” I say again.
“Do you want my help?”
“No thank you” I say, giving my back to him again when the cute smile turns into the smirk. Idiot.
“Wait, what is that thing on your back?”
“Nothing.”
“You have a tattoo?”
“I don't.”
“You do!” he says, his fingers moving my hair to one side and making me let out a little gasp when I feel them touching my skin. “We have a matching tattoo!”
“We don't have a matching tattoo, Mount.”
“Yes we do” he says, moving to be in front of me and lifting his right sleeve. “Look, we have the same moon-pashes tattoo. Though yours is in a sexier place.”
“And unlike yours, mine is properly done, which means that we don't have a matching tattoo.”
“So mean, camera girl” he laughs.
“When did you get it done?”
“Before you did. Sorry to ruin the teasing comment I'm sure you were already thinking about.”
“I don't tease you.”
“Teasing me is all you do, Mount.”
“Ok, fine. Maybe I do tease you a bit. But just because I know you like it” he smirks.
“Whatever” I reply.
“May I?” he says when he notices me struggling with the shirt he is letting me borrow.
“Fine” I sigh, giving up.
“Ok” he says, adjusting it on my shoulders and starting to button it. “If I know how you've put it on then it'll be easier when I take it… ouch! Why did you hit me?”
“Because you were being an idiot” I smile.
“But you love me being an idiot.”
“I don't.”
“You do. You would not talk to me or even be here if you didn't.”
“I'm only here because I lost that stupid bet” I say while he ties the ends of the shirt around my waist. “Please remind me to never bet anything with you ever again.”
“Winning that bet has allowed me to finally go on a date with you, camera girl. I am definitely doing it again.”
“Wait… did you just admit that you, the Mason Mount, would have never managed to convince me to go out with you if it wasn't because of a bet?” I say with a teasing smile.
“If it was just up to me, I would have asked you out the day we met and you would have definitely said yes. The way you blushed when we were introduced gave it away” he says. “But back then you had a boyfriend and I respect that.”
“What a gentleman you are, Mount” I reply. “But I've been single for a while now.”
“I know.”
“Then why haven't you asked me out?”
“Because you weren't ready.”
“What?” I laugh.
“You weren't. You were still trying to get over your ex.”
“I got over him quite quickly.”
“You didn't. And do you know how I know?”
“Enlighten me.”
“Because of that.”
“My face?” I laugh again as he points at it.
“Yes. Your face. Your laugh. The way it didn't sound the way it does now, or the way your eyes didn't wrinkle in that same cute way they also do now.”
“What?” I manage to say.
“I'm a creep who pays attention in more than one way, camera girl” he smirks.
“You… you definitely are, yes.”
“So, now that we've fixed the problem with your shirt, can we go? Today's training session has left me famished.”
“Yes, sure.”
“Great” Mason smiles. “You are going to love the food in this restaurant. It is so good.”
“We'll see. Because seeing the taste you have with everything else…”
“Are you implying that I have bad taste?” he says with quite an overreacted gasp.
“Bad is an understatement, Mount.”
“Well, I like you. What does that say about you?”
“That I am the exception that proves the rule” I smile. “Now, shall we? I also am famished.”
“You can eat me if you are that hungry” he smirks.
“Keep dreaming, Mount.”
“Always” he says, still smirking as he opens his car's door for me.
“Ta-da!” Mason says, moving his hands from my eyes.
“What… what is this?”
“A gingerbread house competition!” he smiles.
“This is your Christmas surprise?”
“It is, yes. Don't you like it? I've even decorated the kitchen a bit” he says, gesturing to the ornaments he's put here and there. “And we have Christmas music playing in the background.”
“I love it, Mason. It is really cute.”
“Then why do you look so… I don't know. Underwhelmed.”
“It's not that, Mason. I seriously love this. It's just that…”
“That?” he says.
“That are you sure a competition is the best thing to get us into the Christmas spirit?”
“Of course it is! It is a gingerbread house! There is nothing more Christmassy than this!”
“Even if you are going to lose?” I say with a teasing smile.
“What?”
“You don't like losing at anything, Mason. At literally anything. So you choosing to do this… I don't know” I shrug.
“Who says I'm going to lose?” he says, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I do” I smirk.
“That confidence is going to be your downfall.”
“Or maybe it is what will make me win.”
“Being that smug doesn't suit you, you know?”
“As if you didn't like it” I say, winking at him and making him roll his eyes.
“Shall we begin?”
“After you, Mr. Mount” I smile.
“Ok, this is how we are going to do it” he says once we both are sat at the table. “The base to build the house is here, the white stuff to glue the parts is here…”
“White stuff” I chuckle.
“And then I've set all the different toppings on these bowls over here. We've got half an hour to build the best house we can, and then we'll take photos and upload them to the family's group chat so they can vote for the best one.”
“Aka, mine.”
“Whatever. Are you ready?” Mason says, grabbing his phone.
“I'm ready when you are ready.”
“Ok. Then three, two, one… Time to build!”
“Everything good over there, Mr. Mount?” I say after a few minutes in silence, the only noise coming from the Christmas music playing in the background.
“Shh” he says. “I'm working.”
“It looks like you are struggling a bit with your house.”
“I'm fine.”
“You sure? I feel like there’s more frosting, I mean, white stuff on you than on the gingerbread” I chuckle.
“What?” he says, lifting his eyes from his house to look at me.
“Here” I say, wiping some of it from his nose and eating it.
“How did that end up there?”
“I wish I knew” I laugh.
“Great. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a house to build.”
“Sure” I say, focusing on mine but keeping an eye on what he's doing, trying not to laugh every time his house falls down. “Do you want to use some of my frosting? Maybe yours isn't right and that's why your house isn't staying up.”
“Yeah. Thank you.”
“Mason…”
“Not now, love. Not…” he says, sticking out his tongue as he concentrates on assembling his house. “Ha!” he says when he moves his hands and all the parts stay in place. “I've done it!”
“You've done it. Congratulations” I smile. “But once again, there’s more frosting on you than on the gingerbread.”
“What?”
“Let me clean you up” I chuckle, picking a cloth to clean his face. “You are going to need a shower after this. You are so sticky… And it also is all over your hair. What did you do?” I laugh.
“I don't know” he shrugs. “What matters is that my house is up! How is… yours” he says when he looks at it.
“I'm almost done.”
“How? How can you be almost done? We've been working for… shit” he says after checking the timer.
“The time is almost up.”
“Shit” he says again.
“We can forget about the time, you know? There is no rush. And our families won't know if we made them in twenty minutes or two hours” I shrug.
“Won't they?” he says, looking at his house and then at mine again.
“They won't. C'mon, let's finish them.”
“Fine” Mason sighs. But before he even manages to pick a topping… “Oh, for fucks sake!” he says when his house falls down again. “I give up!”
“Mason…”
“This was the worst idea ever! The worst! I mean, you didn't even like it from the beginning!"
“What? I did like it!”
“But you didn't look too excited.”
“Because I know how competitive and a perfectionist you are, and I knew you would struggle with this if it didn't go as you wanted to. I've built gingerbread houses before and watched a bunch of “The Great British Bake Off” episodes, and I know it can be a pain in the ass.”
“What does that mean?”
“That I didn't want you to have a bad time, Mason. To feel the way you are feeling right now because your plan to cheer me up and get me into the Christmas spirit hasn't gone as you planned.”
“I…”
“Mason, I love that you thought of all this. I love you for planning it all just to make me happy. That you made it all for me. But because I love you, I think it's best if we leave it here.”
“Because it's been a failure” he sighs.
“It hasn't. Mine is one piece, isn't it?” I say, nodding towards my house. “And you looked so cute all focused on yours, covered in frosting or the white stuff as you called it” I chuckle.
“So it's been fun because you've had a chance to make fun of me.”
“It's been fun because I've gotten to do this with you, Mason” I say, caressing his still very sticky cheek. “Because we've spent some time together even if things haven't gone as you planned. I'm sorry if I've made you feel bad, it wasn't my intention. I just…”
“It's ok” he says.
“Listen, why don't I make us some hot chocolate while you take a shower? You are so sticky” I chuckle.
“Am I?”
“Yep.”
“Shit” he says, touching his hair. “I am sticky.”
“C'mon. Go shower while I take care of all this. We can watch a Christmas movie while we drink our chocolates and cuddle on the sofa. That will also get me into the Christmas spirit, and you happen to be the best in the world at giving me cuddles.”
“Am I?” he says with a playful smile.
“You are” I reply. “But they are for after the shower and when you aren't all sticky” I say, stopping him when he is about to hug me.
“Fine” he sighs. “I'm sorry this didn't go as planned.”
“And I'm sorry trying to cheer me up ended up having the opposite effect on you.”
“It's ok” he says. “But before I go and you start on that chocolate… Do you mind if I help you finish your gingerbread house? You still are missing some details here and there.”
“I would love that, Mason” I smile.
“Great” he smiles back, those dimples of his showing. “I love you.”
